I may give it a go but not an ale guy. Sometimes just going to one of the stores with a decent selection makes me ponder. There are so many choices now. I remember when if you saw Coors, you took it as it was illegal east of Mississippi.

I am not up on craft beers or terminology. I just typically drink lagers. Is high gravity a darker beer than Guiness?
I would tell you my preferred game day beer, but I would be relentlessly mocked.

I'm no expert, and I know we have peeps on here that know better than I that could tell you better than me, but it's got more malt flavor and slightly more alcohol than most beers but it's negligible. The high gravs that I've had have the overtones of a lager with some of the richness of a beer like Guinness. They're sort of in between, I suppose. But again, others know their beers better than me (this is just my opinion).

I loooove Red Stripe. That's probably my favorite Summer/Warm weather brew. In Winter, I like Guiness but I tried this high grav stuff and lordy it's getting to me far more quickly than it should!

Random question: Why does this high gravity beer go to my head about 100x faster than normal beer?

It's all those carbohydrates that spike your blood sugar and lead to an insulin response. Same reason why shooters get people so drunk.
