Can UT just choose a DB to wear out?

1) The Vols have a lot of good receivers.

2) The QB might have deep ball skills.

3) Could plays be adjusted to send whoever a particular DB lines up on, deep on every play.

Rotate receivers. Maybe on their best DB?

I think Philly chose a guard and rotated their freshest d lineman to bull rush him on every play during the super bowl. He broke at the end of the game.

We have the depth at receiver to tag team a DB into fatigued play and corresponding mistakes. Does our offense do this?

I don't think our WRs have played well at all the last 3 years. Teams are putting their best cover corner on Calloway almost taking him completely out of the offense, similar to years past. They shade coverage towards JJ to slow him down and Palmer has vanished this year. We desperately need some playmakers and speed at the WR position. Alontae would have helped this position group had he not been needed so much at CB his Fr year.

Parcell's team were always DB heavy on the roster. So I expect folks have been doing this for a while. But with Tee on the sidelines, UT could maybe do it better?

I think we have a better chance if we get Trey Smith to wear down their DT....SC gives up 146/game on ground and 250/game through the air. If we've got competent QB play, you'd think that's the angle, but think we'll go heavy run with short passes to protect turnovers. On offense, SC pretty balanced and Pruitt seems to fair better against teams who are heavier in one direction. We can win this game, but just don't think it sets up well for us...gotta play a clean and aggressive game. Likelihood of us scoring more than 24ish points is slim, so I'd say if we can hold SC at 21 or fewer points, we'll be in good shape for win. If they're up around 28-35, I'd say it's a loss...their average is 28 points.

probably going to test their D-line first to see if we have a chance running the ball and to get the secondary to press and then we drop the bomb on them...want to see Byrd get some more touches in the slot and WR...

GO BIG ORANGE...BEAT THE GAMECOCKS!

That's akin to saying the 3 - 5 on a basketball team hasnt played well when the PG cant get the offense going.

Yes somehow all the receivers are to blame with JG at QB. Funny how that works.

I don't think this really evaluates our "other receivers" ability to preform as I see their skills.

First there is the time factor given the QB (who ever he is) to survey the field.
Second I see the QB looking at (locking on to) a receiver, usually Calloway as he is first option, and that's where I goes.
Third our freshman QB shows some ability to "look around" also gets rid of the ball quickly. This allows more receivers to be involved.
Fourth there are many good receivers who are not fast. My question is how do we know about their speed. They get the ball late in most routes from JG (catch or not) and usually don't have time to show speed as they have only a step or two before they are in the arms of DB.
NO FIVE This is the big number The problem lies with the QB and O line not the receivers. I think if they ever thought the ball would come their way they would play with a little more enthusiasm and seem more involved even if they are not.

Remembering 1998 when Tee completed 23 straight passes in Columbia. Maybe he can pass on some magic to our QBs.

I'll try to be respectful here, but this is ridiculous lol. Almost non existent QB play and you blame the WRs? How many deep balls do Callaway and Jennings win? O wait, they dont get deep balls thrown in their vicinity. Last year either OL play sucked or JG begged to get sacked. How are they supposed to have time to get open? This year JG is worse, even throwing into double coverage. The passing game has been much better with Maurer, but hes barely played and even thrown ill advised passes. 1st round draft picks? No, but Callaway and Jennings will play on Sundays.

Last week's strategy early on was pretty good. They pretty consistently got JJ locked up with a LB or S.

Yeah. Same narrative. Different day. I showed you the numbers you asked for yesterday. Same receivers. Mostly the same opponents. Maurer gives the receivers opportunities to make plays. JG doesn't... and never has.

Funny the strategy you suggest pretty much shuts the O down with JG at QB... but they have to back out of it when BM is QB.

That's an interesting thought. The have two very good corners who can ball hawk. JG will have to be extremely careful.

Guarantano being extremely careful? I really need to get the ball rolling on a Fantasy Island resort. The consumer base is ripe!

I somewhat disagree. I have seen some of our receivers running wide open while JG sails it into the stands.
