I think there should be 2 tiers of consequences for targeting.

T1- unintentional helmet to helmet: 15 yard penalty and a warning. If it happens again, you’re ejected.

T2- lowering your head and launching yourself: 15 yard penalty and ejected.

Is this hard to figure out?

BM throwing all balls on target.

JTS throwing all balls on target. (that you can see)

JG throwing all balls low. (Except first pass)

Strongly agree. This was brought up in SEC rules meeting last year. The warning issued after T1 would be team wide warning similar to a sideline Infraction.

I’m pretty sure at this point it’s a head game with JG. He was never a great passer, but now he down right blows. He’s thinking way to much. It’s just like the yips in golf. Not sure he can recover.

I think the best way to do it is to DQ a player that hits a defenseless player by launching or helmet to helmet

If the offense player is a “ball Carrier “ there can’t be a DQ only 15 for helmet to helmet or launching

Yes, in Gadsden. I didn’t care for it. Strike 1: they didn’t have brisket. Strike 2: they served my pulled pork already covered in bbq sauce. Great bbq doesn’t need sauce. Strike 3: they didn’t have Coke Zero. Strike 4: Bama fans everywhere.
my friend had chicken and dumplings and he said it was the best he’s ever had. But the pulled pork that I had wasn’t very good.
Y’all should have went across the street to Top of the River.

The ability to do it is there and that is part of what is so frustrating. I've come to terms with JGs limited ability to read a defense and see the field but he is capable of throwing a catchable ball and running the offense. All he has to do is manage the freaking game.

But he continues to get in his own head, play scared then go the opposite direction and try to do too much which leads to disaster. I'm a big believer in knowing yourself and understanding your strengths and limitations.

I'm beginning to think his number one problem is a lack of self awareness. He has not handled the humbling transition of being a bigshot NY/NJ area recruit, hyped up future big-time college QB to not very good but still capable upperclassmen. Its destroyed his psyche.

He just needs to focus on doing what he can do and play the best he can within his limitations. I thought he did that vs Miss St and good things happened.

I'll root for him but I'd rather anyone else be out there at this point.
he's been incredibly frustrating. agreed. and i also agree with you last line there as well.

Leaving it up to interpretation? Bama will never be flagged again.

There is also the difficulty of how to handle offensive players lowering their heads. I don't think Bituli's helmet touched Jeudy's on Saturday, but if it did, it was Jeudy leading with the head. What's a defender supposed to do?

I understand most rule changes are to increase points scored and thus increase viewership among marginal football fans, but a LB can't just get out of the way and let him dive into the endzone?

The Ubben bashing on here has really gotten out of hand. While he may post a snarky tweet from time to time or say something dickish on the podcast, that attitude does not come through in his articles. I've been a journalist and read a lot of sports writing. He's the best beat writer we have in terms of writing skills, understanding the game with nuance, and pitching interesting football/football-adjacent stories (like the barber shop story from last week). He puts Rucker to shame.

I mentioned this before: Braves had Mark Wohlers, and he WAS a great closer, and then he forgot how to throw. They called it Steve Blass disease: – a psychological block which manifests itself when baseball players overthink the act of throwing a baseball and consequently become unable to throw with any sort of control.

JG has never been a very good quarterback seeing the field, and now it's all got in his head, which makes it a thousand times worse-- maybe the football version of that mental problem. I'm watching this practice and either he has the mental thing or he's trying not to make back up so he won't have to suffer the boo birds.
