i think it's a crap shoot as to who gives us the best chance to win.
Maurer has more ability to 'wow' you and make big plays. but he turns it over and can't stay healthy.
Shrout isn't trusted at all.
and JG is what he is.
BM gets the vote for the ability to keep drives alive with his legs and he has big play potential. but he's just as pronte to turn it over as any of the other two.
the QB position as it stands to day is a problem..........i think BM at least has that "you never know what you're gonna get" vibe, whereas JG i think we know exactly what we're getting and it inspires absolutely zero confidence. with BM, you feel like there's a chance for something good, if not great, to happen.
shrout.........flip a coin between he and JG a this point for all i care.
Burrow will put at least 45 on that Bama defenseeh...i might pump the brakes on that a tad. they get ARK and a week off before they see LSU in Tuscaloosa. plenty of time to get the back up ready. and it's not like there's not weapons galore.....i think Bama can definitely still compete with them.
plus LSU has the same problem with Bama and Saban that we had with Florida and spurrier in the 90's....
there's a lot to overcome for LSU....good news is, they have a qb that just isn't scared. Burrow is a lot better, but his mentailty reminds me of Casey Clausen. kid doesnt' flinch and is a great competitor....and loves the underdog, road warrior mentality.
certainly could. but i won't be surprised if Bama can do the same to them. i don't think either team has defenses like they're used to having.Burrow will put at least 45 on that Bama defense
You're right. We're coming.Seems odd to say it but I'll feel okay about even 4-8 as long as we are competitive the rest of the year. Said Pruitt needed to show something, and I think he has. The QB situation is going to really hurt the team because right now we don't have one. If Maurer was healthy and could stay healthy I would feel decent about 5-7 or 6-6, but I think that position is going to cost us games we should win.
Honestly though, everything is just setting up for a huge leap forward next year. I think we win at least one out of the OU/UF/UGA/Bama gauntlet, and then in 2021 we'll be a legit upper-tier SEC team.
I think if you have to call targeting for some unknown reason, you have to call it on the bammer.I also want someone to tell me what the hell Bituli is supposed to do when the wr dives for the endzone about a foot off the ground and Bituli is going in full speed to try and stop him. That's not targeting that's trying to play football.
Someone was supposed to throw a flag. They were waiting for the flag.Hilarious how on our TD, Maurer clearrrly was in off the bat and the refs basically wouldn't call it at all. ESPN cut to our band playing and put up 6 points for us. Even they were like wtf?
yeah, watching it live i was like how is this not called yet? and when they did call it, they were questioning if he could really see that far away......lol. then the sky cam showed it and they were like "oh, well, yeah, that's a TD"....Hilarious how on our TD, Maurer clearrrly was in off the bat and the refs basically wouldn't call it at all. Excellent arguments. With most things in this world, you can get within spitting distance of reality just by following the money. And man does a lot of money flow through college football - all the way from the media and entertainment outfits covering the sport to the cartel that profits by denying the players a paycheck all while merchandising their likeness. Buts thats a story for another day.
Any place you find this much cash you also naturally find corruption, grift, and nepotism among others. Here Im going to talk about a few things that will get you dismissed as a conspiracy theorist, at least by the same people doing the skimming.
College football reality number 1: Referees actively influence the outcome of games
Many peoples first thought is about a powerful person sending out instructions to throw a game, or about referees having a secret rooting interest. While the latter undoubtedly happens on a small scale, this is not generally how stuff is done. Instead, leagues have interests such as getting their representative teams into playoffs, high vis bowl games, and setting up regular season 'clash of the titans' type events. More eyeballs on a TV screen means more leverage when it comes time to renegotiate those TV contracts.
If you are, say, the SEC commissioner its absolutely not in your interest for a struggling nobody to beat your bell cow, spoil a 1v2 regular season match up, and probably lose 1 spot in the playoffs (you can get 2 in otherwise). Sending out instructions to toss a game is super dangerous. Communications will be intercepted or leaked by disgruntled employees and if the integrity of the game becomes openly questioned the money train is over. You do however control who is hired, fired, given choice assignments, promoted, &ct. Anyone who has worked in an organization can tell you what kind of actions will get you a pat on the head and what will get you a boot in the ass. Wielding this kind of soft power gets you what you want while maintaining plausible deniability.
College football reality number 2: 'Sports' and 'Journalism' should never be seen together in any sentence other than this one
If this kind of thing is as obvious and prevalent as it is - and it is - why dont we hear more about it? It comes back to the integrity of the sport. ESPN wants your eyeballs on that TV screen just as much as the NCAA does. The bodies covering the sport could investigative-journalism themselves up hundreds of articles exposing the various small time corruptions in and around college athletics. There are some decent journalists out there that do just this, but they'll be marginalized by the gorillas in the room. Thal Shalt Not Question The Integrity Of The Game. Hell its so bad now that they have to pull in ex-referees to explain why that obviously bogus call is correct actually.
Add to this that all the 'big time' sports writers that are practically stenographers in an incestuous relationship where scoops are traded for positive coverage *cough* Dan Wolken *cough* and you have a complete circle where every actor is completely invested in making the world a worse place - all in the pursuit of dollar bills.
So no, its not a conspiracy theory to say we got actively and knowingly jobbed. Its a conspiracy theory to say we didnt.

Actually, I think Coach O is very smart. I think he uses the perception that he is a dumb cajun to his advantage. He is clearly not dumb. His first try an Ole Miss was a colossal failure. But, he has definitely learned and is now a very good coach.I honestly think that a lot of coaches overthink things, and Coach O will never be guilty of that, lol.
Just recruit the best athletes you can, motivate the hell out of them, and keep things fairly simple scheme-wise. Let your guys go out and make plays and get them out of their own heads.
Can you imagine a Coach O-led team hesitating too much on defense? Nah, those guys are ready to bust heads.

i don't feel the same way at all...not the confidence in the QB part, but the "feel" from the season ending with that record.Odd, but I feel the same way. It's hard to feel too confident rn simply because of our QB situation. If our D and run game can drag us over UK, Vandy, UAB, I'm fine. Get some WRs in here to replace The Dog and let's roll.
