People tend to assume a concussion any time a player takes a head shot. And sometimes, it is. But UT trainers will take a player's helmet and sit him if the player seems at all dazed or has a headache. UT is cautious, and that's the right thing to do. CJP probably will address Maurer's status in tomorrow's presser. Since they took his helmet, he's probably in concussion protocol again... which may be precautionary or may be something more.

You have to wonder, though, if opposing teams will make it a strategy to try and knock Maurer out of the game, knowing we have backup issues? Some guys might consider that worth the penalty... assuming a flag is even thrown.

You take out my QB then I take out yours but will add a second helping on your backup.

BTW, really off topic but I've seen you mention Pat Rothfuss in the GOT thread. I finally got around to reading his stuff and man am I glad I did....master storyteller. Can't wait for the next book.

Are you sure it was me, or was it somebody else replying to me? I love Rober Jordans WoT and Brandon Sandersons work. I want to read Rothfusses Kingkiller Chronicles, but not till he actually finishes them.

@Devo182 Just to mention something so obvious one might forget: that was a late hit on Maurer, and it would be interesting to see that non-call side by side with the call against us that helped decide the outcome when the second 3 and out was overturned.

Maybe it wasn't.... my bad thought I saw you mention his name and remember talking about WoT with you. You will love it when you do read. Amazing.

I've been catching up on reading this year with almost all of Sanderson, Joe Abercrombie, Scott Lynch and The Black Company books.

I really like the Stormlight series out of Sandersons stuff and love his shared universe approach in general.

Can’t sleep. Found Premiership Rugby. Don’t know a ton about the sport but enjoying watching - particularly from a CTE perspective. Looks to be more of a horizontal game as opposed to football which is more vertical. But the players have also been really protective of one another - even of their opponents. And then, the camera pans to these guys in the crowd - I may have found another sport to follow. 74AD2495-080E-474C-9C11-E65371C44381.jpeg

We have similar taste. If you haven't read Kingkiller Chronicles, you should. I only read Sanderson for the final WoT books, and I HATED how ham fisted and lacking in subtlety he was. Are his other books a similar writing style? The dialog felt like he was trying to write an overly snarky and quippy movie script, and he explained every single detail like the audience was incapable of picking up anything unless he explicitly spelled it out. He's the one mega author in that genre I haven't read. Curious on your thoughts.

...
In my twitter feed. Sure there will be five FF threads started about this.
There was a FF thread this afternoon called "Pruitt fumbled into the endzone and Alabama ran 105 yards!"
Edit: I saw it with my own eyes. Maybe Freak took it down; I can't find it now.

Here're SEC refs taking over a different game Saturday in protection of another of its potential playoff teams, in case you missed it. No flag on the record 40 yard continuous hold: Gators score, gators "win."

Smh.
Thank goodness Devo is around to make sure we know there's no bias amongst refs or I would think that was intentional.

Posted a comment this weekend without reading the thread, hadn't been over there in so long until reading this got me curious.

Great idea...Should have just poked myself in the eye with scissors.

At the VERY least we should have every right to decline ANY of the officials from last night, getting to officiate the game next year at UT... just throw up the 8-10 blatant examples on video and you can easily make your case.

Last night was honestly the worst I've seen because it was sustained throughout the entire game... It wasn't just here and there... it was small no calls, not giving us the proper yardage marks, and huge phantom timeouts, roughing the passer, phantom holding, and no calls on bama... horrible. There should be more than enough on tape to submit to the NCAA.... yes the NCAA and NOT the SEC--- they won't do 'ish.

There is a poster in the FF who makes the claim that he is a contemporary of one of those officials and knows him at least by reputation.

He even goes so far as to give the ref's name and says the man is a Birmingham born Alabama fan. He would be the referee who stopped play so Bama could adjust when we came out in the Wildcat. Anthony Jordan redux, perhaps? Well, there are no social media posts to verify he is a Bama homer, yet. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, because something tells me we haven't heard the last on this one.

Here is a link to the aforementioned thread:

Phantom Call

EDIT: By the way, the referee in question was the line judge and he is named here in this article:

Alabama vs. Tennessee Vols football: Who are the officials?

Still looking for that hold on the JJ TD. Maybe Greg Sankey can help us find it when UT sends it in?
They called it on Morris correct? ESPN did they replay and it showed Morris blocking correctly and I thought he disengaged . The camera moved left to follow Jennings and we never see a hold. At least that is my recollection.

They called it in Morris, then the commentators thought it should've been on the RB.

Yet we never saw this game changing hold.

Anyway, if Maurer is unable to play, we still have to beat SC. If Pruitt trots JG out there, I hope fans won't boo. That won't help us win at all. My public service announcement.

Hope you're right, but there will be at the least a collective groan from fans.
