This is so true.Possibly the only thing the sports source ever said that I agree with -
"the OC is always the most criticized assistant. When a play doesn't work, it was the call, when it does, we compliment the player. And whatever plays we decide he should have called, always works...in our imaginations".![]()
Was talking from a crowd standpoint. And the team has said multiple times in the last few weeks how it feeds off the crowd. And we don't always play well at noon (see Florida game)Team played pretty well with that early kickoff. If we get that version early bring me all the noon games.
Not all teams look sharp in early games (see Georgia)
Do you really believe that Tennessee was gonna replace Pruitt after this year? SMHTime to turn the page on the first half of the season. 2-4. We thought there was a good shot to be 4-2. We now know it should have been the result.
Second half - we wanted 3 wins for the "7-5 would be a good second season" majority of posters. Instead we need 4 to bowl and 5 to hit the 7-5.
I see nothing in UAB, Vandy and UK that is concerning. That leaves one or both of USCe and Mizzou. USCe has QB issues and will face UF before us, so there is a good opportunity at home. We already know our fate against Bama, however, this will be a good exercise to see who mans up and who doesn't. A 2-2 October was always going to be acceptable.
The good news it appears Pruitt is back on path to get another season as HC. That needed to happen to recruit a good class and continue the rebuild.
In rewatching some of the game this morning, I keep coming back to the Tyler Byrd touchdown pass.
The play defines a lot of what I love about sports. You have two freshmen receivers doing their jobs. The little details. Were they great blocks? No. Were the effective? Yes. Nice effort from two guys who probably weren't asked to do a lot of blocking in their high school careers.
Then you have Tyler Byrd and JG. Two veterans who didn't bail on their team. In a day and age where Tommy leaves his travel baseball team because he's not playing the position he or his parents want him to play. Or a kid transfers from his team because he didn't get the number he wanted or they get mad at the coach and they leave. In a time where guys are shutting it down at the college level because their team isn't any good, Byrd and Guarantano show up and are ready when called upon.
Both have played for 4 different position coaches in 4 years, 2 head coaches, and 4 different offensive coordinators. Neither have had the careers they or the fans anticipated and the quarterback knew those in the stadium didn't want him on the field, but both played, both did what they were asked to do in order to win the game.
Are they suddenly difference makers or should be major factors moving forward, no one is suggesting that, but when called up two "castaways" were ready and did their job.
