Did anyone else notice the crowd boo’ing when JG went in the game?

That is disgraceful and pathetic. Regardless of what side of the fence you are on with JG, that man has sweat and bled for this program. He has put his body through absolute hell trying to win games. He was BM’s biggest fan and first level of support Saturday.

They didn't boo him after they saw him carry Maurer off.

Before that They were boiing Pruitt and we're not aware that Maurer had a helmet malfunction. They thought he was just putting JG in there because he said he would...

I think people didn't realize Maurer was hurt and that is why JG was brought in. They simply thought Pruitt was swapping QBs and the fans were booing Pruitt for giving up on Maurer.

Probably not a good look, but I'd place the blame on the athletic department. The result over that past decade along with getting a peek of how dysfunctional the athletic department runs during the last coaching search, has forever disgruntled part of the fan base.

Yeah he did better than I thought for the first half but you could tell he was instructed to throw the ball out of bounds by the coaches this game. They didn't want him throwing into triple coverage. I guess that's progress. Lol

I could maybe see your point if you were making a distinction between professional players vs amateur but people are free to pay whatever the going rate is to be there or not. I just can’t see verbally berating 18-22 year olds over how they are playing a game. I can’t help but put myself in the position of one of their parents and have to watch that kind of thing happen. I just don’t think it’s appropriate.

Didn't say it was appropriate. Said it was understandable. There is a very blurred line between professional and amateur sports at the prices now being charged. For all intents and purposes, the schools have "professionalized" their audience. The players are even fighting to professionalize themselves in a legal sense. In the minds of the frustrated fan, that professional/amateur line does not exist at Division 1 football.

I perceived it as fans booing CJP for the decision. I'm not sure many knew Maurer was hurt. Even at this point I am assuming he was hurt, looked like he had gotten thrown down the previous play.

Still not a good idea, but I think there may have been varying reasons why people were booing.

Didn't say I participated. I am indicating that at the prices charged for these events, an elevated expectation is created. In that case, what constitutes proper etiquette can shift dramatically. College football has crossed that threshold in many minds. This is the exact same principle at play in the decline of etiquette in youth and children's sports. Once you turn it into a large, uncaring business enterprise, patience and understanding evaporate. It's not good, but I completely understand it from those investing heavily into it.

Etiquette has nothing to do with a price. It has a lot more to do with character.

I was there and it really got me in my feels a bit. I’m possibly Maurers biggest fan but I’ve always liked JG and respect him for all he’s done. In my eyes he’s the living embodiment of a VFL.

Thank you so much for posting this. I heard the boos and was distressed. But I also noticed how involved and supportive he was with his replacement, which is how I thought he would be. He's a nice kid who has taken many a beating on the field. My feeling for him is "Bless your Heart."

I figured Pruitt would get some questions about JG's future after Maurer got the start. Perhaps Pruitt propping up Jarrett in his post-game comments was in part prompted by the perception that he was booed entering the field for that last series.

Was at the game in the middle of UT fans section S and some UGA fans. The booing was from the Georgia fans at a penalty called on them or lack of one called on us on the previous play(s) not Vol fans booing JG. I can see how on TV it could have sounded like booing JG. It was not our fans as trust me I have neighbor Vol fans I sit near will boo at our team if given the chance which disgusts me. I’m sure there were some UT fans booing but it was mostly from upper deck and UGA section.

This. terraceparkvol was at the game. Likely, the booing was from UGA fans and aimed at the officials. The perception that JG was being booed needed to be dealt with, and Pruitt propped him up in his post-game presser.
