I guess I like to look that a little closer before agreeing if you are talking about guys that played significant snaps like crouch.

Guys like AJ Johnson and Curt Maggitt flashed very strongly in their first few games. Obviously Derek Barnett, Eric berry, AL wilson and others did as well.

We need Crouch to develop into at worst a Curt Maggit type player. I am
Drawing a blank on a true freshmen that got significant snaps on Defense that didn’t “flash” early that developed into a hell of a player. I’m sure there are a few but I can’t think of any

Crouch is 3rd or 4th in the OLB rotation. Everyone else you mentioned were starting or in the 2 man within a game or two of getting on campus.

I know Crouch wanted to play LB, but I think he's a more natural RB and we could probably use him in the backfield in the next 3 years. We need a big back.

Yeah, I don’t understand being worried about him. I think he’ll be a very good rush end with time.

In a perfect world he’d be an ideal redshirt candidate.

Yea i mean in today’s football you’re in nickel so much that you have to be able to cover to be an every down ILB. I don’t see crouch having the speed to pull that off. He’s around 255 so maybe if he dropped about 15-20 he could improve there but i personally would rather see him stay in that edge roll. Even tho he’s a tweeter in terms of size and length for that spot i think that’s his best spot. Even if he beefed up to about 270 he would very quick for that position as an interior pass rusher especially in sub sets. Ed Oliver was about 6’2 270 while he played at Houston. I think that should be the goal for crouch.

Yeah we kinda knew Middleton wasn’t going to do much. But I think a lot of people bought the Savion hype. The juco film looked violent, and let’s be honest, he just looks the part of a menacing DL.

But both juco guys are trash.

I’m all for avoiding JUCO altogether unless they’re like Jordan Davis - a kid with commitable offers to P5 programs out of high school but go JUCO for whatever reason. The hit rate on these Juco kids is low enough as it is.

And that includes I’d consider dropping Art Green from this class.

Art Green is a worry, coming outta HS he was a 3 star .8004, WR prospect with 1 offer from Arkansas State... He does have great size though and the move to CB might have been a smart one. We'll see I'm sure they'd rather get a Freshmen in that spot, but being 1-4 might prevent us being able to pass on him if he's fully committed.

Why do you think he’s more naturally an ILB? Just curious
he's not great laterally, not as good as i thought he was anyway....and that's not necessarily a good thing if you're going to play outside and have set edges or get to the sidelines....

he played RB in HS, and typically RB/LB have similar attributes physically, similar body types, and are used to being physical.... can make that transition a little easier....we've seen it happen here a ton in the past....

i don't think he's "big" enough to play DE in a 3-4, and i'm not sure how much you want to put on his frame? i think that's maybe the bigger question is how much could his frame handle? if he can handle more, and still get the most out of it, maybe you do try it....if not, at ILB he can stop the run, rush the passer and take up space in the short passing game....

i'm thinking along the lines of a Thomas Davis "type" once he made the transition from Safety in college to ILB in the nfl...that's kinda how i see Crouch. HT being Kuechly, crouch being davis...

Thing is Crouch started at ILB, and didn't move to OLB until Henry T showed up on campus. So he gets a soft pass for me this first season, but even then he's still making plays. I think Banks emerging at ILB (and taking reps) also hurt, especially since he's now dismissed. It's unfortunate it went down that way, but Banks keeps his head on straight and he would have been starting beside Henry next year. Oh well, sometimes it's just bad luck.

We need to win the early games. We'll be healthier and less beat-up for MSU, SCAR and UAB, and we get them at home, where they can feed off the fanbase. As the injuries mount up, depth is going to be an issue. Playing every snap is going to wear on Bituli and Henry T, and Bituli's knee was never 100%. We don't have much behind them. Win early, win at home, and finish as strong as we can.

i don't think he's freaking out that bad, but yeah, not worried.

Yea worry is such a bad word to use. I think he’s going to be a solid player and probably unfairly I am wanting him to be a star. We need a guy that other teams fear and my post are in reference to that hope not that him becoming a solid contributing player on the DL.

I don’t think he’s athletic as he was billed to be and I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’s a natural linebacker. He’s got bad hips and does not move well laterally.

He’s best in straight lines and using his strength. That’s why I think he’s a rush end.
he'd have to get bigger. that'd be the big question for me, how much do you want his frame to handle and still be who we need him to be?

i think he's plenty athletic, i do agree tho, he's not as good laterally as i thought he'd be......but he was a stand out RB in HS, so i know atheltically he's fine.....overall.

i think 3-4 DE and i start thinking about guys Watt, Cam Heyward, Brett Kiesel, Aaron Smith etc.......bigger....longer...frames...

i won't totally blame you here. we've been in this rut for a long time. we've been in a position, unfortunately, that basically every time we bring in a new, highly rated, recruit that if he doesn't become mr. all everything from the jump, we write him off....

and that's simply because our roster has had so many issues over the last few years, that we've HAD to rely on freshmen and sophomores more than any coach we've had/have would really have liked to.

and the more it's happened, the more impatient we are as fans when they aren't great.......NOW.

there's a difference in what we have to do with freshmen and what UGA and Bama and Clemson can do with Freshmen.....siap, those teams have erasers for freshem mistakes, we don't. and usually if those programs are playing the kid, it's because there's a specific reason/skill that warrants it............not because they absolutely need to have him on the field to put 11 bodies out there........lol.

JG is playing just enough to not enter the portal.

He has nothing to gain by entering the portal other than his Saturday’s and afternoons off.

I saw a man that isn’t going to quit on his team Saturday. I might be wrong but I think he sticks it all out into after the last regular season game. If we pull off going to bowl He May bolt then and that’s understandable

Chaos godz are appeased

It's so hard to build any depth here. Honestly... As bad as they were, guys like ignont are still better than any other options we have. Now he transfers along with many others and add Banks dismissal. 2016 was the only year since the early 2000s that we had actual players beyond first and second string. Unreal

I just looked, I take back what I said. Reporting he has a knee sprain. Say he is ok. I’ll change that to an L.
Affects his mobility. That brought Tua down a huge peg last year and he’s waves better than Bryant. Hadn’t conceded that as a sure loss with a FULLY HEALTHY Bryant.

Couple things from the press conference, both that I would file in the "mean streak" category.

First, when asked about the sideline skirmish, Pruitt said it wasn't Will Friend, it was two players. And he said that it fired him up that someone felt that passionately about doing things the right way...said he wished he had more with that kind of fire.

Second, on OL penalties after the whistle, he alluded (again) to there not being a whistle (I'm guessing that's still from the Florida game), but he said that when they started 22 months ago it was hard to find 5 guys on the OL that would go out there and play to the whistle. He said now they have some guys that want to go drive their opponent into the ground, and that now they're having to work with slowing guys down a little bit, "and that's a good thing." (Pruitt's words quoted there)

Bowl game! And most importantly, recruiting takes off and we beat the brakes off of a lower tier team.
