These guys have had roughly the same strike zone for years and years. They can’t adjust what they are mentally trained to swing at on the fly at this level. His strikes have to be somewhat close to actual strikes.

Plus you get into ambiguities about how far out or how high should I swing because I know it’s a ball but where’s the extent of what he’s going to call. It becomes a guessing game. The zone exists for a reason.

I’m with you on every level but this one. It’s not only professional baseball, it is the playoffs. He has to call actual strikes.
