It really is. At what point does it finally change? Good coaches are supposed to show flashes of what to expect in the future yet we just get worse.
I hate to admit it but I'm losing faith in Coach Pruitt.
That isn't to say I want to fire him or replace him. I want to give him at least 3-5 years.
But my causes for concern:
1. Not game planning for Ga State. The mindset that we could just roll the ball out and win. It cost us an embarrassing win.
2. The constant shuffling of the OL, and going into the season without a more clear idea of who our best 5 is.
3. The seeming regression by some key guys. Props for getting AT and BT to play as well as they did last year, but both look to have regressed (granted BT is probably too small a sample size to really judge). GuaranTANo went from serviceable to terrible. Tim Jordan went from serviceable to not even seeing the field. Etc.
4. The Banks situation - both the warrant, followed by this latest incident. And this following the Bryce Thomspson incident. It looks like two of our most promising players (or former players) was troubled kids with significant character concerns. BT has to be on a very short leash now. Banks is gone. Losing kids from the 16-17 class is one thing. Losing kids who are supposed to be the core of the rebuild is another altogether. Add to it the rumors of a divided locker room, but it almost feels like the staff doesn't have control of this team. Maybe an unfair knee-jerky reaction to things. I don't know.
Additionally, and most alarming to me IMO, is how unprepared this team looks each week. Slow starts. Sloppy starts. Inexcuseable misalignments. Dumb penalties. We don't look like a well coached team. And the players not knowing what to do is concerning because we hear a lot how everyone gets the same amount of reps in practice.
I still like Pruitt, and I like the hire. I think long term he's going to be a very good coach - hopefully for us. Having said that, I think the fastest way to "rebuild" would've been to hire a more seasoned (read: not first time) head coach.
As it is, Pruitt took over a dumpster fire team, void of talent, speed, and size. He's tasked with rebuilding in the most difficult conference, with arguably the most difficult annual schedule each year (just having to play UF, UGA, and UA every year is a daunting task). And he's essentially learning on the job.
I think patience is going to be key. Unfortunately we live in a microwave society where everyone wants results immediately. Pruitt is 16 games in and people are wanting him gone. It's asinine.
Now, I'm a homer, and I thought we were a 8-9 win team this. I'm not into sports betting anymore, but I was very tempted to call an old bookie friend when I saw Vegas set our O/U win total at like 5.5 this year IIRC. I'm going to do my best to stomach through this painful season, in hopes I can find some development, progress, and promise in lieu of actual victories this year. As hard as that is to imagine.
Fact is we all knew it was a 3-4 year rebuild before any coach was even announced. We have to stay the course. Like I opened with, I see some causes for real concern with CJP - but I still think he's the man for the job.

The problem Pruitt has is the same problem Butch had... There's a "but"following anything good you can bring up.Beating a ranked Auburn team on the road and #11 Kentucky at home were “flashes.” Granted, he needs to do more, but you can’t say they haven’t flashed under Pruitt.
Excellent post. Agree with all of it.I hate to admit it but I'm losing faith in Coach Pruitt.
