i tend to agree. i've not seen anything from Maurer, performance wise, that says we're going to see some giant upgrade. he's fearless, which is a good thing...up to a point. if BM can prevent being the turnover machine he could be, then fine.....but......i find it hard to believe that he's going to be "error free" in a game like this.......
i don't. especially at this part of the season..........
the only reason i'm not being critical of the thought of playing maurer is because JG hasn't exactly presented himself as all that much better of an option.
i don't think there's really any "good" choices right now. i think JG's head is scrambled, and finding confidence now, against UGA, is a daunting task, especially when you got yanked in the last game and you're seeing how the reps are being distributed since.....
at least maurer has the right mindset, and does have a certain energy to him.....so we'll see what happens....i don't think the outcome changes all that much either way...another reason i'm not overly critical, either way we decide to go with the QB.
it's the devil you know vs. the devil you don't imo....not a ton of good options.......
He was true freshman going into the game cold on the road against a top 10 team down 17 to nothing and playing with guys that he had limited reps with at the time. Also he probably felt like he needed to make things happen and forced some passes because of it. So cut him some slack as he did better than Peterman when he played against Florida.Much worse than we have seen already.
I think he throws a pick 6 with a total of 3 or more picks if he plays the entire game.
Im basing this off how many times florida defenders got their hands on his passes last game. 8 of 11 they got their paws on

People use the Nathan Peterman example as a UT failure when he was beat out by a better QB. But he was a train wreck by the end of his time here. He NEEDED that change of scenery and a reboot and it worked out for him. How much of it was mental reconstruction...how much of it was coaching/teaching? Prolly a happy medium of all that and trusting his own talent and letting things happen at their own pace. Like JG it was apparent that whatever good he had left to do...it wasn’t happening HERE. Now I post this and he pulls a Crompton...wouldn’t be the worst thing.I just believe JG is mentally toast right now. We’ve seen all we need to see from him, imo. His body language and decision making processes are all out of whack. I think we see more of the same with him if he plays. He’s checked out
I just dont get the play the older player mentality. I think if you have to draw up a game plan that for a freshman to execute you should just go ahead and start the freshman. Atleast he has a chance to grow.eh, Ainge has said more than once that JG's issues are mental.
but he's got a soft spot for the kid. i think he has a relationship with him and knows him fairly well. he's not going to bad mouth him...nor should he. but he's not been dishonest on his assessments of how he's played and why.........
Late and high over the middle is normally a disaster. After watching this play from Sky cam. This looks to me like more of a miscommunication than a bad throw. I think we are running a levels concept where i think it’s DWA running a drag in front of Jennings on the inside and Palmer running a deeper in on the outside to occupy or make that Safety pick. Jennings makes a great move against outside leverage to get inside. I think JG thought (or at least the throw placement appeared like it) he was supposed to keep dragging across the middle but Jennings sat down once he beat his man.

i mean, i get why anyone would have this line of thought.Lets hope so. My gut says ESD will be won’t be good to us. Commits will stay quiet until then, but not sign, or outright jump to another school in December. We were already trying to overcome negative recruiting before Ga St.
true, and i don't know how they'll use him, i certailny don't see 30+ att.....that'd be coaching malpractice. lol.It depends on what they ask him to do.
If they re handing him 30+ attempts and running a wide open passing attack its probably not going to be pretty.
If they stay with quicker scripted stuff and run the football more (BYU) and then let him have a shot or 2 down field occasionally to see if the WRs can go make a play that can put him in a position to get better.
He might seem stronger mentally but it’s a very safe bet he isn’t nearly as good as peterman.
Hopefully I am wrong but I think starting 18 will be a disaster.
well, usually experience matters.....and coaches are generally going to lean towards guys they've seen do it..."go with what you know" type mentality.I just dont get the play the older player mentality. I know JG has been thrown into a bad situation here with all the different offensive coordinators. I know that there is growing pains in learning a new offense. The issue is he seems to not have a better grasp of the game in general and being able to identify basic defenses, which is something he should learned regardless of the offensive coordinator changes.
For sure. And if the coaches believe Maurer is the best option at QB right now, you play him. You don’t hide him because that just shows the rest of the players that you’re scared. One thing I think we can all agree on, it's likely to be a disaster for any qb we send out there on our roster Saturday.
