Jeremy Banks needs to be dismissed

It doesn’t matter how they feel he made threats clear and simple. You are so hell bent on your narrative you can’t see the simple facts. If I say I’m going to shoot the president it’s a threat weather he feels like it’s going to happen. If he says he will see that girl on campus after talking about shooting cops in that context it is a threat. IT DOESNT MATTER HOW THEY FEEL.

And what is my narrative? The fact that people on a message board don’t speak for others that were involved in the incident personally?

Such a wild position.

It’s all pretty simple

Banks made a series of mistakes, and failed to correct them.

He acted stupid during parts of the traffic stop and arrest.

Banks never threatened anyone, and his speech (no matter how rude or “wrong”) is protected by law.

If Banks had stepped further (with his speech) and crossed the lines of the “fighting words doctrine” his speech would not have been protected, would have constituted a threat, and he could have gotten into more trouble......but it didn’t.

He was dumb, he acted even worse, but he didn’t threaten to kill anyone.......by law.

You don't think telling a female intern "I remember faces, I'll see you around campus " constitutes a threat? The interns attorney will think so if she decides to sue.

I'm calm scooter. I can see you are pretty good at stereotyping people without the first clue.

Scooter???

Anyway, your inability to recognize a potential problem is your... well... problem. Actually and unfortunately, though, it is my problem too, because I have to deal with apologists (see also: YOU) excusing absolutely idiotic behavior for reasons that only God knows. I bet you don't pet many rabid Pit Bulls do you? Does that make you a sterotype kinda dude?

It doesn’t matter what I think.

The law says it’s not a threat, and the law says it’s protected speech.

Free speech is very important and it highly protected by the constitution and by other laws.

If one takes “angry or bad speech” and expands on it, directly threatening someone that could cross the line.

I can look at a police officer or anyone and say “I hope you die”, I can say “someone might kill you” but I cannot say “I am going to kill you” I cannot say “I’ll make sure someone kills you”

You really need to learn and understand the “fighting words doctrine” it can help keep you out of trouble and teach what a direct threat is.

Hold up you potato. Please point out where I have excused anything. I have yet to say anything about what he did. This is about the term thug and how the guy I was responding to uses it. You decided you would start babbling about vaping, apologist, and some other crap I didn't read and here we are.

According to what I read, none of them felt it as a threat. It's over, it's done, the end.

They know what the law is.

I don’t know how it is across the country, but where I’m from every officer has to learn and comprehend the fighting words doctrine......and the law is very clear.

He is a thug. Thugs tend to speak like that, and act like that, and... wait for it... LOOK like that. You ever seen a mob movie? You ever seen a scorpion?

Came home to my better half asking me if I watched the video. I had not, and said so. Her eyes flashed (never a good thing in my experience), and she asked me to watch it, so I did. It was bad. Worse than I thought. She knew what I had said about dismissing / suspending / executing JB over this, so she cornered me on my opinion. Honestly, this woman should have been an attorney. She's that good at making her point. I can't remember the last argument or debate with her that I won. In 19 years.

Now, mind you, she has been at my side for a long time now. She has seen me at my best, my worst, and everything in between. Covered with mud after a foot chase that went into the marsh; covered with pepper spray after a pigpile; coming home in tears over a child, animal, or innocent person that got hurt or killed; when I was on the SRT, getting called out at all hours to go sit on a perimeter or make a hot entry into a dwelling to make an arrest; and you name it. God Bless her, she has stood by my side through thick and thin. Never complained. And amazingly enough, when I went back part-time, she simply said "I know why you are doing this, I hate it, but I love you and I'm with you." Good woman. Far better than I deserve.

That video is bad. Ugly bad. I'm going to stick with my original position on this, but I will add a caveat: Jeremy Banks may or may not have NFL talent. But if he does not change his attitude, and his heart, he will never reach his potential. He has God-given talent. He needs to honor God in how he uses it.

Or he will end up being a number in a statistic of where black males who grow up in crime-infested areas end up. No one wins in that scenario.

So Go Vols, and let's hope Jeremy Banks gets it figured out before it's too late.
