Question: Which was in worse shape whe the new coach took over? Tennessee 2018 Or Mississippi State 2009, when Mullen took over from Croom? Mullen went 5-7 his first year, then no worse than 6-6 thereafter.

I would say Tennessee but in the sense of although we definitely have better players than that. Our expectations are astronomical compared to theres at that point.they were awful like 7/8 years before Mullen got there so they would’ve been thrilled just make bowl games consistently.

So... here is a little exercise I feel like doing, just to try to get some perspective on where Pruitt is as a head coach. The numbers are completely subjective, but I'm trying to use a point system to highlight the high and low points of his time here to get an idea for where things are at.

Year 1:
Pruitt is hired, Baseline: 0
Inspires at the Introduction Presser: 1
Acquires a top level strength coach: 4
Assembles an expensive experienced staff of high quality recruiters: 5
First signing class. It was short notice. Swung big and missed on a lot of them. Fillers have done not much of note: 1
Drop of season ending injury occurrences overall: 3
Inconsistent offense in year 1: -5 points
Lack of development of older players: -3 points
Upset of Auburn: 5 points
Upset of Kentucky: 4 points
Disappointing losses to Mizzou and Vandy to miss a bowl game: -10 points
Self admission of essentially losing the team at the end of the year: -5 points
Retrospective hire of Helton: -5 points
Avoidance of Helton buyout: 2 points
2nd signing class: 7 points
Media / Fan relations: -3 points

Total: 1 In retrospect, I'd say that is pretty fair. Some good and bad, everything pretty much washed out.

Year 2:
Perceived problems in landing a OC: - 4 points
Hiring of Chaney: 5 points
Retaining Fitz as strength coach: 3 points
Questionable upgrade of Ansley: 2 points
Hiring Tee: 4 points
Georgia State Loss: - 15 points
BYU Loss: - 3 points
Regression of QB: -10 points
Lack of progress of most other players: - 3 points
Regression of defense: - 7 points
On field confusion of assignments: -5 points
Perceived schism of older and newer players (lack of buy in): -7 points.

Year 2 Total so far: -40

Total: So, without any preconceived outcome, I assigned the points above, which are obviously clearly arbitrary based on my opinion. You may have differences in opinion, point totals, etc, but let me math this real quick....

Pruitt's job performance so far merits a -39. He needs to do a lot to get things going in the right direction, because it's clearly trending down.
How much would an upset against Georgia be worth?

So? And again nobody saw us losing the GSU game.

But it happened.

You just sound like you're upset some aren't upset enough.

Yet err'body is upset....

Go figure...

Don’t we all wish that Ga State was the only ugly reminder that this isn’t just part of a normal rebuild.

Meh

We all knew this was a 3-5 year rebuild but let’s not pretend to excuse the complete flop this last 6 game stretch has been. Nobody and I mean nobody expected this debacle and it’s time we stop defending it like it was expected because we knew a long rebuild was coming.
I agree with this. We didn't have to tear things down further to start the rebuild.

The shooting at cops remark was a big mistake. More than smarting off.

No doubt it was a mistake but it's not national news that a 19 year old (or anyone for that matter) will say stupid things to cops when they're frustrated and in handcuffs. The more minor it is the more likely you are to say something incredibly stupid because you're so frustrated.

This issue was resolved already and the cop never even bothered with something as minor as a disorderly conduct charge for it. So why in the hell was it dredged up? Banks isn't a star player. The initial charge is beyond low level. It makes zero sense outside of this being once again an inside attack by one of our boosters because he doesn't like Pruitt or Fulmer. We do this ish to ourselves and wonder why our program sucks.

Look up Lou Holtz record when he took over South Carolina. Not all rebuilds are the same.

We are a decent qb from 3-1. The most important position on a team has sucked it up for the last 6 games. It's sad you get your rocks off starting shi$ on a message board for years now!

It would be very interesting to see how many failed coaches could also say the same thing about poor Qb play

Fulmer with Crompton
Muschamp-mcelwain at florida
Sumlin at A&m
Strong at Texas
Cut at ole miss

I could go on and on about coaches that bit the dust at places because of poor QB play.

At some point you have to point the blame at coaches. It’s clear that for now this fanbase is giving Pruitt as pass here and allowing JG to get the blame.

We made Fox News. KNS et al ought to be ashamed. Banks is now the face of everything wrong in the world because he smarted off after getting pulled over for a u-turn/unpaid fine. Good Lord.
Wait 10 minutes and it’ll be on the last page and we’ll find out which girl Miley Cyrus is lesbing up.

Nah. Tn roster way better. Jones' inflated classes, aside. Expectations have nothing to do with it. Proves Mullen is about 10x coach that Pruitt is.

“Smarted off”?
He talked about shooting cops....

It’s unfortunate that this has become a national story, and yes, the Knoxville media sucks for going out of their way to blow it up.

But his behavior was completely unacceptable.

So what was the guy to do. He had a RJr coming back and has two freshman. Then JG regresses, now he will play the freshman and hopefully get Harrison here next year. I believe the writing was on the wall though. I am no qb guru but I knew JG sucked from watching him the two previous years. Hell, even Jennings gave up on him last year that says everything.

But yet the lowest of moments of that entire decade are led by the moments of the last 6 games
Oh good... More "yeah well, this still sucks more" conversation... Lol...

Here's how you should start your posts from now on, kv can take notes:

You just thought you weren't happy before... You should be extra upset now... Let me tell you why...

If you want to be belabor technicalities, he did it subjectively. “Cops get shot”. Never specified that he personally undertook the act. Yes it was unacceptable and wasn’t accepted and he’s playing Saturday. Tip your waitress.
