How did it work out with Worley versus Dobbs? Why does it take a serious injury for a HC to do the right thing?

Maurer could be this team's version of Dobbs. Not saying they run the same way, nobody ran like Dobbs he is so unique. Mauer is a quickness runner. He will get you the 6-10 yards to keep the sticks moving. So it is really clear a RPO centered O with some of the regular running game and screens mixed in will work much better than the garbage we have watched for the past 3 seasons.

Huge Recruiting weekend this week. Probably not a good idea for our fans to boo our own players. Recruits notice that.

2020
WR/TE Arik Gilbert
DE Reggie Grimes
DT Omari Thomas
ILB Bryson Eason
ILB Martavius French
OLB/S Tamarion McDonald

2022
QB Ty Simpson

Put Maurer in and run with it to show these recruits we are building for the future and willing to take our lumps and ride with new, young talent who wants to be out there giving it their ALL....

I think the downside of Tennessee having such a rabid fanbase is that is has propped up a lot of bad sports journalism. I think what's been happening is that when you don't have success to write about on the field, the click-chasers have to reach for whatever they can to get eyeballs on ads.

WBIR digging up this footage, and then everyone in Knoxville sports media clutching pearls, reeks of desperation.

Because, if we had teams kicking tail, they'd write about that. If Barnes wasn't killing it, they'd be writing article about how terrible it was that Pitino was allowed on our campus after what got him fired at Louisville.
I wish, but in football they did the same thing at the peak of Fulmer's day.

“Usually for good reason “

Gtfo with that ****.
You can believe what you wanna believe. I’m not interested in a debate here. Js, most people wringing their hands over this have a limited perspective. There’s a cultural mistrust between the police and minorities in this country - and plenty of data to support both sides. Not saying it’s right, but it’s reality.

Oh I agree there is mistrust. That’s the problem

Not to add to this, just that I was thinking something similar last week. If you go back, he was playing well up until that massive hit he took against Mizzou. He looked totally lost vs Vandy. And the same this year.

Of course none of this would explain his practice self vs game self.

CTE?

Edit: Nevermind I know now 👀😁

You're thinking of sophomore Dobbs in 2014. True freshman Dobbs in 2013 (which is what Maurer is right now) wasn't anywhere close to what sophomore Dobbs did. Freshman Dobbs was okay, but he only won one of his starts and didn't throw a TD till the last game of the season against UK. Granted, the defenses he faced in 2013 were pretty stout (Bama, Mizzou who was really good that year, Auburn, and a decent Vandy team), but still. Finished with 2 TDs and 6 INTs in his four starts in 2013.

I don't expect a ton from Maurer if he starts at any point this season, but he certainly can't be a whole lot worse than what we've seen from JG so far. I think he'll be worse overall, but maybe he inspires the offense or his mobility leads to more plays overall. I dunno, but I do think it's time to move on from JG sooner rather than later.

None of this makes. They say he knows all his reads and makes all the throws in practice but in the game he hits a mental block.

Has to do with trust. Coaches put players out there who they trust to give them a chance to win. I have criticized JG all year, and he is just not very good. But I do understand that the other two will most likely not give us a better chance to win. If you play Maurer full time, then you are just playing for the future. That's fine, but fans need to realize that Maurer will make mistakes, and winning games against teams like USC and UK will become even more difficult.

It absolutely happens everywhere else. But just like paying players, it only makes you look bad when you get caught saying it out loud.
I think it only makes you look bad to people that want you to look bad. Could other teams use it against us in Recruiting? Possibly, but I think it is minimal impact. Will national media jump on it with both feet? Probably, but mostly it's guys like Wolken who have a agenda anyway.

Just talked to a friend. Sam retired a few years ago and is now coaching at Knox Catholic High and was substitue teaching there as well.
Good to know. I remember Swain getting up in arms about Butch letting a State Trooper go who used to escort coaches off the field. I may be confusing this story with Sam. Thanks for following up.

For sure - the impact is minimal. But it just advances the narrative the on-field results have already written.

Hopefully time, and respectable, honest police work like KPD displayed with JB will change the narrative.

“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”

Yea and also if people will stop saying that that mistrust is “usually” warranted that will help even more.
