Movies you've seen recently II

Like I originally said in my review when I saw it in theater. It's not a bad a film but to be the last X-Men film at Fox it's a let down based on expectations considered for storyline.
I had to do a lot of reading to try and make sense of the person who died because of the timeline.

Ad Astra- 3/10

I was really looking forward to this movie. The trailer is deceiving. This isn't a sci-fi movie. This is daddy issues in space. The directorial style made it worse for me. It gets 3 because the opening scene was decent and there were a couple decent space shots/scenes. The story is thin. The narrative was slow and awkward. And the end sucked just like the rest of the movie. I hoped maybe there would be some twist or redeeming plot piece, but no. The movie seemed to want to attempt realistic portrayal of space travel/physics but it even ruined that at the end too. As I was walking down the steps to leave the theater I heard someone comment "well that was a waste of 30 bucks." I almost stopped to agree with him.

Came across one on Netflix last night and said what the hell:

Moonlight: 7/10

Solid movie, made some poignant observations about growing up gay in the black community, especially during the crack epidemic. I get it from that angle, but I don’t know how the hell it won best picture. It simply wasn’t that good.

One of those movies that you know is quality but have difficulty staying awake for the appreciation part. 😴

Stuber...7/10, was funnier than I thought it would be, they had good chemistry.

In The Tall Grass 7/10 entertaining little Stephen King/Joe Hill horror movie. They did a lot with it considering the limitations of the environment.

They hit it off right away and became great friends. Kumail goes to his wrestling events. Kumail recently decided he was tired of being a wimp and just wanted to see what it would be like to work on his physique. He's been going hard at the gym and dieting and it was something he and Bautista bonded over. Kumail looks good, too, especially for a nerd who picked it up at age 40.

Surprisingly, Tucker and Dale vs Evil was a pretty good movie!

How is that surprising? One of the best films of the decade.

Also, on another note, saw Joker 9/10, such a raw, visceral film. I'd say 10/10 with a bit better editing. Phoenix got the Oscar for sure. definitely the best origin story ever told, as the tone perfectly matched the protagonist. Todd Phillips definitely took a big swing and he nailed it. Some weirdos in the audience made my wife very uncomfortable towards the end but I expected it.
