That’s correct, Bronco did well at BYU. But don’t pretend after his first couple years at UVA there weren’t many labeling him a bust. That happened.

And you’re right Pruitt is 6-10 thru his first 10 games at UT. You know what Bronco’s record was after 16 games at UVA? 5-11. He finished 8-17 after 2 seasons in Charlottesville. And I live nearby, it wasn’t a happy bunch. He then went 7-5 in year 3 plus a bowl win. And now 4-0 to start year 4. Maybe, if given more time, Pruitt has a similar year 3-4.

I don't remember Bronco being labeled a bust. Maybe after year one by some ignorant, impatient fans, but Mike London was pretty awful there. Bronco made a bowl game in year two. Hard to call that a bust at the time given UVA's past 15 years or so. Upward progress is always a positive sign. We might be looking at severe regression, despite having almost the exact same players.

And again, comparing Pruitt's and Mendenhall's records at this point isn't a 1:1 comparison. Bronco was a known quantity with a long history of success at BYU. Pruitt isn't, and he actually hasn't even been a coordinator that long. Pruitt very well may get this thing up and running again, or he may be Ears Whitworth.

Can’t run the ball unless you can throw the ball.
Hank was right.. We're getting coverage looks that say we should run it more. We did against BYU... Didn't enough against Florida or GSU.

Defenses are aware of our QB Ave his issues seeing the field so they're game planning for it.

Gotta do more underneath... Be it running it or screens.... And we've tried the screen game... Just haven't executed it very well.

He has 5 rings. Including two as a coordinator for different teams. Look up the stats on how much better FSU’s defense was with him vs without. Ask Bama fans how much they missed him last year as Clemson embarrassed their defense. You can argue the proven HC point all you want but he’s been a very good FB coach for a long time. He knows more about coaching football than every loud poster on the board combined, including you and me.

Any d coordinator worth a damn can see that. We are one dimensional with JG.

It's all about the wins. He will have adequate time to prove his worth as a coach. The wins/losses will say if he's a good coach or not.

And you can argue the proven coordinator point all you want but that's really meaningless when it comes to success as a head coach. Hell, Dooley looks pretty good as Mizzou's OC right now. Should he get another shot as a HC?

Again...6-10. The evidence that he's going to succeed just isn't there right now, Ron. All he's really shown is that he can win rings with uber talented teams while working under highly successful head coaches.

I have found a solution to our coaching situation. The losing coach of the Tennessee/ Arkansas game gets fired immediately next year.

I really think that’s fair and both programs and fans would agree the loser of that game needs to be fired.

I'm pretty sure that was the storyline of the 2015 UT vs Arkansas game as well. And...they both ended up getting fired.

Agreed.
I do want the whole learning curve thing on the HC thing to shorten up a bit tho....

P5 #CFB Teams underachieving in 2019 with a lot of talent. (2 or More Losses or 1 Bad Loss)

Number of 4 & 5⭐ Recruits on each Roster.

Stanford - 29
Miami - 33
Tennessee - 35
FSU - 39
Michigan - 39
Texas A&M - 41
I posted this to say that rankings can be misleading....out of the 35 4 and 5 star recruits we have on our roster, how many were truly being targeted by the big programs. Our Roster is fluff....

we've had a lot of attrition. many young players transitioning from a completely dif type system. former coach was a loser.

with that said i think five stars are usually the safest bet for big time player. four and three stars are too hit or miss, too many rankings anymore.

Running screens haven't produced well for a number of reasons...but the overarching reason is that our opponents know that JG cannot deliver the deep ball.
So, they pack it in there on those routes between 5-15 yards and dare Chaney to throw the ball deep. They KNOW we're no threat to throw the ball down the field on 20+ yd patterns.
They just pack it in and have their nickel and LB ready to attack screens and shorter patterns.
It's just obvious to see during the games.

BYU ran zone to prevent the big plays most of the night while mixing in some man under....
And JJ ran free from the slot down the field all night long when we lined up 4 WRs.

And that's how our SEC opponents have played us...it's exactly how Fla played us--luring JG into what the TV announcers and CJP called "trap" coverage by the CB with Safety coverage over the top.
(And it's exactly how Muschamp continues to play us at USCe.)

Sometimes Fla's CB would walk up in a press man look and run with the WR....other times he would sit down in the flat--and JG threw the ball right to him when Callaway correctly read the coverage.

What's so disappointing to me is that CHANEY has done nothing to exploit that defensive strategy.
You attack it down the middle behind the LBs with slot receivers....you counter it by running TEs or slots across the face of the LBs and sliding RBs out into the patterns underneath in front of the LBs.
And you run the ball more....like Maurer's 1st two plays against Fla. You just keep mixing it in there and then throw a deep one down the middle off of play action.

You must stay patient and mix enough of it in there....and try some double screens, too.
Chaney did run a double screen when Maurer was in there but it wasn't going anywhere because he hadn't allowed Maurer throw the ball deep down the middle of the field.

There's enough film out there of Chaney at UGA absolutely blowing games against Bama's D to figure out his MO.
It's why he is out at UGA and has landed with us.

It's a combination--IMO--of JG's ineptitude and Chaney's being an over-rated OC and in game play-caller.
And we've forced to live with it.....

Pruitt, or any coach at UT right now, needs 3-4 years minimum. You don’t like it go cheer for another team. Bama and Clemson will make room on the bandwagon. You made the list.

Well in his defense... We've seen the many replays where there were guys open and JG missed the throw or never saw the open guy... Or didn't get it out in time... That's not on Chaney.

I think it’s a mental toughness issue. This team folds as soon as something bad happens. Part of that is on coaches, but part of it requires time to get those guys out and new guys like Crouch and Tootoo in there. Our best game was BYU, but when they scored late to take it to overtime, we folded. With Georgia state we started to fold after that first offensive play. Florida was when Jennings dropped that ball that was picked. If you think about our big wins last year, we didn’t have those moments.
