Been saying that for years now.[/QUOTE]Our greatest concern is defensive line recruiting.
He's been out on the trail though...I think if David leaves it'll be his decision.
Rocker & Weinke I'm fine with replacing both. Rocker without a doubt...we need a better DL recruiter who can develop better.
agreedNot calling you out on anything. Not my style, I am on the fence about the Mullen hire. Mainly because I just don't think UT was willing to offer him 6 million a year, which is what it would have taken to hire him. Then assuming if we even made an offer he might have just waited to see what Florida was going to do.
We'll never really know the full truth of the last coaching search and all the missteps that lead to new AD and Pruitt being hired. Schiano being 2nd is still a huge travesty by Currie, even prior to the fan backlash.
Baron starts day 1.Been saying that for years now.
I may be in the minority, but I think our existing DL can be very good by next year or maybe even later this year.
- Emerson and Garland are both RS Freshmen and have shown flashes in their first 4 games.
- Gooden will be back next year.
- The other DL getting playing time now are essentially getting meaningful playing time for the 1st time (other than A. Solomon). How many times have we seen JUCO DL guys play much better in their 2nd year in D1? I still expect the DL group will improve as much as any other position group this year just because of their current inexperience.
- If we get Hardy and Baron in the 2020 class as expected, I don't think they will get lots of playing time in their freshman year since there will be several DL seniors still on the roster. However, by their 2nd year, Baron and Hardy will get plenty of playing time. That is how most coaches would like it ... as you do not want to have to start true freshman on the DL unless you have to .. or unless they are Derek Barnett.
that is plausible, but I am very paranoid when it comes to the BoT and the Haslams. I think Currie was doing what they said and they wanted Schiano, for some inexplicable, stupid reason. Even if he was "only" the second choice, that is such a major fail for everyone involved.here's my theory.
we talked to Mullen at some point prior to Saturday Nov 25th. we supposedly were set to go back to Starkville on Sunday the 26th.
prior to that though, UF got turned down by Kelly, and they finalized with Mullen on the 25th....and he was announced as UF's coach on the 26th.
my biggest issues with this are these:
1. if Mullen was really the "can't take no for an answer", #1 candidate....we should have never left starkville and keep making offers til he says "yes". that's obviously not what happened.
2. we were in Columbus OH on sunday the 26th signing Schiano....if he was the back up plan, we were loacked and loaded and really quck to the trigger to be able to sign him the same day UF signed our #1 guy.
to me, it's probably more likely we were in talks with both guys, and were going to take a "yes" from either one.............whoever got there first.
Baron starts day 1.
Yet here we are with Pruitt as HC.That's what frustrates me...Schiano shouldn't have been a top 10 candidate even.
Regardless of any of the Penn State related blowback. 68-67 as a HC at Rutgers, and even "after the rebuild" he went 4-8 in his 2nd to last year there. Then had all the issues at Tampa and was just 11-21 there and had not been a HC since 2013...
The Rutgers rebuild was also in the Big East. Just not a very impressive coach to be your HC. Currie is an idiot.
it's so hard to project what will happen the rest of the season. there's certainly no reason right now to think we see some 180 degree turn around...but in the interest of "the games have yet to be played", it's still possible. It's all about how this team looks in November. If we have November success, recruiting will not suffer as a result of constant improvement.
As bad as I would hate to see it if November looks like September, I would not be surprised to see a coaching change. It will be hard to sell that to recruits.
