As terrible as this season has been it wouldn’t surprise me if we by some miracle upset UGA. A QB away from 3-1 minimum. Defense is improving. 2 weeks to prepare. Played with them on road last yr when we all expected to be cremated. Deeply familiar with their schemes on both sides of the ball.

Fully expecting we get our butts kicked but who the heck knows.

That’s basically my only hope for this season to continue to progress and for it to eventually click. Unfortunately can only click so much when handcuffed at most important position on the field.

I'm crazy enough to believe that UT loses to Georgia by less than they lost to Florida.

WR:
David Johnson

?
go get Jay Grahm back from aTm.....great coach and recruiter.

not sure you can get Dan out of retirement.

not sure about your move to QB/WR....they may have one of the off field guys the want to move in to an on field role.....? maybe osovet gets his shot on the field?

It's all John Currie's fault. If you're going to make the call to fire Butch in November, then you better have the next HC candidate ready to hire basically ready to go.

Still baffled by the cluster**** that coaching search turned into, really floors me.
He had a plan. Schiano was his plan. He was listening to his sponsor family and did not really consider anyone else. Thus, here we are. I am hopeful Pruitt can get it together, but, I am pessimistic for now. I do hope to see something that changes my mind.

Also said David Johnson is in his final year but I think he is actually done a pretty good job and is the least of the worries.

He's been out on the trail though...I think if David leaves it'll be his decision.

Rocker & Weinke I'm fine with replacing both. Rocker without a doubt...we need a better DL recruiter who can develop better.

See what proof do you have to support this conjecture? I've read far more that Mullen was #1 and we didn't pony up or we slow played and Schiano was #2.

I spinned as fact, but I don't have proof. So, kudos, for calling me on that. That is my opinion based upon the information available. I think Mullen was a smokescreen or, at the least, unrealistic because of the potential Florida opening.

This is one of the most encouraging things I continue to see, the emphasis on the younger players. I think it's a great use of promotion in regards to recruiting going forward. Henry T, Wanya, Crouch, Gray, Wright, I hope to see more of these guys (Harrison, McCullough, Keyton) not only in games, but also being used to get more guys like them to the Hill!

here's my theory.

we talked to Mullen at some point prior to Saturday Nov 25th. we supposedly were set to go back to Starkville on Sunday the 26th.

prior to that though, UF got turned down by Kelly, and they finalized with Mullen on the 25th....and he was announced as UF's coach on the 26th.

my biggest issues with this are these:
1. if Mullen was really the "can't take no for an answer", #1 candidate....we should have never left starkville and keep making offers til he says "yes". that's obviously not what happened.
2. we were in Columbus OH on sunday the 26th signing Schiano....if he was the back up plan, we were loacked and loaded and really quck to the trigger to be able to sign him the same day UF signed our #1 guy.

to me, it's probably more likely we were in talks with both guys, and were going to take a "yes" from either one.............whoever got there first.

So coaching search for a DLine coach and a QB coach... I'm all for it.

Defensive Line short list
Karl Dunbar
Lance Thompson
Tosh Lupoi

QB Coach
????
Major Applewhite is chilling with Butch in Alabama as an analyst
Or have Chaney just add the QB coach title to his duties as OC. He's certainly being paid enough. Craig Kuligowski is a name I would love to see when it comes to the defensive line coach position. He left Alabama after last season but not sure where he ended up for 2019.

Not calling you out on anything. Not my style, I am on the fence about the Mullen hire. Mainly because I just don't think UT was willing to offer him 6 million a year, which is what it would have taken to hire him. Then assuming if we even made an offer he might have just waited to see what Florida was going to do.

We'll never really know the full truth of the last coaching search and all the missteps that lead to new AD and Pruitt being hired. Schiano being 2nd is still a huge travesty by Currie, even prior to the fan backlash.

Yeah, which I really hate. If you're courting two, ya end up with zero.

Go get your guy, like you said. You sit in front of him and go as high as you're willing to go and make him say "No" then you move to #2.

Lou Holtz was 0-11 in his first year at USCe. He had USCe winning about 8 games a year by the time Spurrier came in. Sometimes, it takes a few years to upgrade the S&C program, change the culture, and replace the players that are accustomed to losing.

Key for Pruitt's future (as it is with most coaches) is to find a good QB. Don't think we have one on the roster yet. Maybe Maurer or Shrout can surprise us this year or H. Bailey lights it up as a true Freshman. If none of these happen, Pruitt will be gone soon.

Not really true on Holtz.

His last three years at usce he went 5-7, 5-7 and 6-6

Lord knows we can’t live with those results around here.

What Holtz did a usce was somewhat similar to what butch did here

well, no isn't an option if Mullen is your aboslute top choice. you keep making offers until he says yes. no just isn't an option.

and you certainly don't leave.............

i think we probably knew that if UF came calling, we had no shot, so we took "a shot" so it couldn't be said we didn't.

but Schiano was baically locked up. he was waiting on us....so if we got a no from Mullen...........no worries....hell, we were expecting it anyways....................right? lol.

so maybe if there was an official list somewhere, Mullen probably is on top of it. but it's in name only............Schiano was the guy pretty much all along....and they knew it.

i'm not blindly optimistic either.

what i have is a difference of opinion with how this should be handled...today...and it's based on the situation and circumstances that exist today, not some emotional reaction because i'm butt hurt about w's/l's.

nobody is happy, nor should they be. but the "fire the coach" mantra is just lazy and short sighted, if you're really taking a full assessment of the entire picture.

i'll go on record right now and tell you that if CJP doesn't win, ultimately he will be fired. and ultimately, that might in fact be the right thing to do.

it's not the right thing to do today or at the end of this season.....he'll get fired if he continues down this path. that's a certainty.

thru many years of awful decision making, we've finally reached the point where stability matters the most......to what actually matters most....THE ROSTER.

we have to rebuild this roster. it's the only absolute there is right now. and firing this coach in/after year 2 is an awful decision that sets job #1 back even further.

and i say that knowing that there is no top 5 mega class on the horizon. but you keep getting core players like we got in 19....you can build on that....and develop everybody else. if nothing else, this staff has shown the ability to evaluate and recruit.

so even if we do have to fire Pruitt in a year or 2, you at least aren't dealing with a patchwork roster that's not put together for the same purpose.....all recruited for the same basic system......not devoid of s&c totally or experience....or talent....

as for this season...there's 8 games left. manage the qb situation as best you can, fix whatever you can on the defensive backfield and go see what you can do with those last 5 games.....who knows...maybe we salvage this thing, finish strong and sign a better than expected class.

or....we continue to suck.

which one we in for around here?
It's just so hard for this instant gratification society to understand this. They want to pull up an order a coach off the menu, go to the window and pay, and then immediately get what they ordered. And just because you don't think it should, would or could work this way means you're accepting mediocrity. No, it means you're just as miserable about the situation, but you realize building the roster has to be the number one priority. After you have a roster with depth and experience you can then make another hire if necessary.

I listened to Callaway’s interview after the game and he said they could tell Maurer was nervous and they were trying to get his head right - that could explain the added energy.

Rightly or wrongly, it seems like they feel like they don’t have to do that with JG. And maybe they don’t - maybe it would be counterproductive to get him too amped up.
Can't be any worse than he already is.
