Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

I made myself listen to Pruitt’s PC today and don’t believe Pruitt could’ve handled it any better. Anyone calling him a dumb a$$ needs to go listen to that interview. He was very detailed in his plans and the approach they take on quality control daily/weekly. He started talking defense and went way in depth on the types of analysis they use to determine what they are/aren’t doing well and how to improve it. He’s aware the qb situation sucks and is giving them all equal reps this week in practice. When you listen to him talk it appears he’s got this thing running in the right direction. It’s just impossible to see it as a fan because we only see what is on the field during games, and that has been atrocious at times. To hear him talk about it he truly believes we aren’t far from seeing success. I for one hope he’s right, and we start to see some fruits from the labor this team is putting in. This has been a long hard crappy road for everyone involved in Tennessee Football.
He’s an absolutely brilliant defensive coach. Not sure he cuts it as a HC, however. Totally different job and responsibilities.

What would you predict the final score would be if we could swap QBs with UGA? We get Fromm and they get JG. ... and UGA has to leave JG in the entire game.

Fromm could produce 21 points for us. JG costs them two or more scores because of their passing style.

31-21 Georgia still wins.

QBs mean that much.

I agree that he sounded very detailed and confident in his approach. I'm sure his biggest regret with recruiting was not going out and getting a quality GT QB this year to fill the gap between this year and Bailey.

Mullen has unquestionably done more for Florida that Pruitt for Tennessee, all things considered. Tennessee May have been in a worse place but Franks was bad, they have had a mess of transfers, hardly any DBs in the roster and an awful OL and they are winning. I still wouldn’t say Florida has overachieved, But it’s early.

At this point, I would take Mullen over Pruitt but JP has time to change that narrative

Have you rewatched the Int to Callaway play? I noticed JG called JJ in motion and he ran back where he came from. Afaik one does that sometimes to see if the defense is in man or zone. The lb moved right along with JJ. Did this make JG think they were in man defense? Or would the CB squat or move backward regardless? I would think he's usually only squatting when in zone and usually only playing back when in man. Just curious your thoughts.

Here is best guess at this play for both Us and them. (With pics)

Florida: this is 100% Tampa 2 coverage. The only thing odd about it is on the opposite side of the interception, the safety doesn’t drop back towards the numbers like hes supposed to. He is more towards the middle so this must have been in response to a tendency they picked up. Other than that everything is basic Tampa 2 bring 4, drop 7. Everybody squats at the 1st down marker and has their eyes on the QB, except the Mike (30) is protecting against a Inside vertical. He can either reroute it or just drop deep.

Us: props to Chaney bc he knows they are in cover 2. This is called “Flat 7” with an inside seam. This play beats tamp 2 every day of the week. Chandler is supposed to run a flat, baiting the corner to come up so Calloway can run HARD corner or comeback. Emphasis on hard Bc he needs to make the SS think he’s running a go so he will get back on his heals.

What went wrong?

Chandler runs a delayed piss poor flat route where he doesn’t get upfield Quick or high enough to cause the corner on Calloway to come up to the flat. I think it’s palmer that gets rerouted by the mike trying to run an inside vert .......

I have no idea wtf JG was doing bc he threw to a spot where no one was even supposed to be. Corner never takes his eyes off him and just reads him like a book.

Does anyone else hate the well Butch's players are still on the roster excuse that people throw out? It's the responsibility of the head coach to get everyone to buy in and not just your guys. Their have been plenty of coaches that have come to new programs and won with the previous coaches players and Butch left some talent for Pruitt to work with.
Bingo! Great point. I couldn't have said it better myself. Good coaches who start out at a new place embrace players who are already on the team and then add their own guys.

I mentioned specific positions. Quit being such an absolutist. It’s why your takes always come out so cold.

No you just constantly speak in generalities with no specific examples and you just come off lazy. If you wanna rag on players at least call them out individually and have some evidence to back it up.

I don't know much about football, but it appears that the defender at the bottom is essentially playing man. Our bottom receiver is either one on one, or if JG looks off the safety, he is open on a down field route. In the second picture, the safety does not even consider helping on our bottom receiver because JG looks left the entire way.

Yea that’s what i was saying that everything was straight Tampa 2 but that. Corners can jam then float back to the sticks in this particular zone. They don’t have to play off coverage. But that safety is supposed to drop back towards the numbers and cover that deep 1/2 but he just stays in the middle.

That’s why i said they must have seen us run that on film before and basically said don’t worry about that WR bc we never target it.
