Mendenhall is the only name I have heard that makes a lick of sense.

I mean Bronco in Knoxville, TN just seems like a great fit...

Proven track record of rebuilding programs (on his 2nd now).
Power 5 experience.
Defensive minded.
Teams always run the ball well.

The only question is how well can he recruit. At BYU it's kind of a hard sell, but he's done fairly well at Virginia which is also historically not an easy place to recruit.

Dude, Ga St.. I'm afraid he is in over his head..
Idgaf how many time you or anyone else throws Gstate out there to try to shut down the conversation. The bottom line is that this roster is terrible with the exception of a few and it starts with the QB position. You can scream Gstate until you're blue in the face, makes me no difference and i'm not changing my mind.

Firing bad coaches does not keep good coaches from being interested in the job. That’s a myth.

We just don’t hire the good coaches.
When you have shown yourself to be an inept program that has gone through four coaches in 12 years, money is the only thing attractive about this job. That is not a myth. The question then becomes how much will the university spend on a coach. We've demonstrated in the past the answer is "not enough".

It's not about how much money we theoretically have according to you. It's about how much we're willing to spend. I'm not sure why people think this has suddenly changed?

I'm tired of worrying if a guy can recruit, more worried about how good a coach they are.

I want to be out on the coaching search thing, but Pruitt has gotta show the fans and recruits something this year. Just can't go 2-10 or 1-11. 4-8 is the absolute minimum, because that would put us at 6-6 if we hadn't shat the bed vs GSU and BYU.

Yea sounds great. Let's fire a guy after less than 2 seasons and grab that competent head coach just waiting to bring his family into this disaster.

One question tho...what if we don't hire a competent coach, for the 5th time in a row since firing Fulmer? What then, suck, rinse, repeat?
I'm not saying fire him in less than 2 years. i'm saying if he doesn't get us back on track and we go 2-10 this season, then you fire him. If he can get to 4-5 wins at this point i'd be in favor of keeping him.

I’d interview the guy who will be coaching against this year on Homecoming. Yes, he’s got a state of Alabama background but no ties to the Tide.

For some reason people want to believe Jeremy Pruitt is a really good head coach being brought down by the program instead of the alternative which is that Tennessee is really good program being held down by bad head coaches.

Who believes that? Most people are saying Pruitt needs to get better as a HC and needs a better, deeper roster, including a QB. We need it now, but we don't have it.

lol Who is saying Pruitt is a good HC? Most are just saying firing him in year 2 is a bad look that doesn't help our image.

Tennessee has been held down since the last years of Fulmer. This didn't start with Pruitt and pretending it did is moronic. Pruitt didn't walk into a good situation. If you really want to blame someone, look at the revolving door of AD and other administrators who continuously acted in inept ways.

With the 25 hard cap limit, and inability to quickly flip rosters. I have to agree, recruiting will take care of itself...we're in the SEC, traditional powerhouse with amazing facilities. Kids will come play for a consistent SEC East contender if we get the right HC.

This has to happen. Otherwise this place will burn to the ground IMO. Not that it will be pretty after another 4/5 win season. Just can't imagine 1,2, or 3 so I won't. I'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I do think you have to recruit at a really high level to win here. I’d be interested to see what happens if you just win football games. How much of recruiting is just that? 80%? Of course, because we’re so far in the hole, you have to recruit first.

Kiffin and crew made Crompton pretty serviceable. People all over the country including our conference have done more with less.

Blaming the QB and the roster is semi-warranted. But the roster and QB are better than the QBs and rosters at BYU, GSU and Vandy. We’re underachieving and throwing it all on the QB is a convenient way to play a little slide of hand with the real issue.

People who continuously throw out Norvell's name seem to forget the program was built up by Justin Fuente. How's he doing at VA Tech again?

I make the argument that a lot Fuente success at Memphis comes from Norvell. Fuente leaves for VA Tech and struggles. Norvell stays at Memphis and elevates the program higher than Fuente left it.

I agree we have a better overall roster. I strongly disagree we have a better QB. JG has not demonstrated that in any way whatsoever.

I don't think it's slide of hand. It's more about JG being a pre-madonna and having a lack of pocket presents.

I agree with all of this but the reality is that kids today DO NOT view us as a powerhouse anymore. The sooner people start to realize this, the better off we'll be.
