We’ve been paying buyouts in multiple sports for a decade and we’re still one of the most profitable programs in the country. I think we’ll be fine.

Let’s stop worrying about the pockets of millionaires.

Fine, put money aside, how does firing one coach to hire another coach we'll fire in 2-3 years help the program? How does it make us relevant?

I agree. Winning two games is never acceptable. And it is not as if the East is some strong division right now either. I am saying we just have to wait and see how the season unfolds. If he manages 5-6 then he is safe. If he wins 2-3. He needs to go or fans will be completely checked out.

It's not the winning that is unacceptable. It's the losing.

The only way firing Pruitt at this point makes sense is if you have a proven big time coach on the hook. Another small time hire does nothing for us.

See my above post. If you can get a proven big time winner, fine, but replacing him with a Norvell or another small time coach is pointless. So what if they win at smaller programs? Look back to my example of Fuente. Tore it up at Memphis. How's he doing at VA Tech? So unless UT is willing to go big, it makes no sense to fire Pruitt right now.

I don’t think he's in over his head but I do think this roster has bigger problems than he thought. This roster is straight trash right now with the exception of a select few upperclassmen and his guys.

Tennessee is such a powerful brand with unlimited resources that we should never be uncompetitive. Hire a solid head coach and we’re instantly back to being competitive.

You honestly think that's a realistic option after what has transpired the last decade plus?? I'm sure firing Pruitt in year 2 would easily reverse the course right?

At this point we need a coach who can beat the patsy teams, beat vandy, kentucky, USCjr, etc. Plenty of coaches with our talent level can get us there. Hiring a coach who can beat UGA and Bama should not be what we're focused on right now if we're being completely honest. we need a coach who can get us back to 6-6 to 8-4 seasons. If Mark Stoops of all people can get Kentucky a 9 win season then we can find someone who can get us to 8-9 wins. and Kentucky is doing that with far, far less talent on his roster.

hiring a competent HC would easily get us back to 6-6 status IMO in 1 or 2 years. 9-10 win seasons obviously is no easy rebuild but we at least need someone who can beat the easy teams which Pruitt can't do in year 2.

Firing bad coaches does not keep good coaches from being interested in the job. That’s a myth.

We just don’t hire the good coaches.

Yea sounds great. Let's fire a guy after less than 2 seasons and grab that competent head coach just waiting to bring his family into this disaster.

One question tho...what if we don't hire a competent coach, for the 5th time in a row since firing Fulmer? What then, suck, rinse, repeat?

Given their targets, I think it is. It's just a matter of whether they can reel them in.
