And I'm still here in case anybody was wondering, there is just nothing to say except that surely someday this nightmare will end, and I will still be a Vol one way or the other.

Hang in there, brother. I go back to watching Steve Delong as a 10 year old in the north end zone bleachers. I'm still here. Waiting impatiently to see guys like him. And Hacksaw. And Steve Kiner. And Reggie White. And Reggie Cobb. And Harry Galbraith. And Dale Carter. And Carl Pickens. And Peyton. And Jamal Lewis. And Al Wilson. And Jason Witten. And Eric Berry. And Derek Barnett. Heck, I just want to see a Bill Duff out there. I see one - JJ - although he is not as disciplined as the others. Somebody, anybody who will go to war on the field. It has been so long since this program had any fight in it like those guys and many others I have watched who have worn the orange with such great pride.

Until I see that I would never in a million years recommend keeping a HC that lost to GA State in an opener to be followed up with a loss at home to BYU, to only get blown out by a supposed rival in UF who is clearly not a dominant team. Add in the Mizzou and Vandy quitting of the players last season - nope. I'm not in. It is disgraceful and disrespectful to the guys above and all of the others who gave all they had for Tennessee. That coaching staff is not giving all they have or else they are all being hamstrung by the HC because most of them have been high performers in their past employment. Something is wrong, something is messed up, and to deny it is insane. I cannot imagine in a million years a Doug Dickey, Johnny Majors, or even Phil Fulmer trotting JG out there game after game. At least Phil tried other QB's when it was going downhill in his tenure. We saw them all on the field in games when it mattered so he could at least find one that was serviceable. The media and others who suggest JG is the best option obviously know very little about the position and game. None of them or any of us know because the other two have not played meaningful snaps other than the brief two series snapshot of Maurer last week - in which he performed much better than JG as a true freshman.

You know it, I know it, and there are a handful on here who know it. Bandaids and fantasy football decisioning will not get this turned around. As long as I have breath I will be a die hard fan of the BO and the BO alone. But I will not be quiet and bandwagon a bunch of losers.

Rant over.

His point is that coaches all talk about how bad our boosters are with not pulling in the same direction and no one wants the job because of that.

It's really a non-point. Unless they refuse to continue to donate what difference does it matter if one group preferred candidate A over B? As long as they'll help pay to hire either...

Honestly you know what I think hurt us more than anything in the last 2 searches specifically? A lack of trust in the AD to be at UT long enough for you (the new HC) to get the ship right. Maybe that's where the booster involvement comes in?

I guess without being deep into the administration I don't know how much "pull" a booster or boosters really got.

Satterfield @ Appy State would take this job in a heartbeat. Dude would coach circles around Pruitt (Not that that is saying much). There's plenty of HC's out there who would be 3-1 record for us right now. This whole "no one wants to coach here" narrative is lazy AF to me.
Would Satterfield at Louisville take the job?

You seriously saying Butch and Kiffin are good coaches?
Our last 4 winning seasons were under them....

Fire Pruitt right now and hire him, and Swaggerfield starts out just as bad next year. There will be transfers..you could kiss HT, Crouch and probably Wright and Morris goodbye...and probably others too.

Scott Satterfield is at Louisville. This is his first season there.

NOFREAKINBODY...this is not 2017...this is now..and the coaches did a great job with BYU. That loss was not on them. It was squarely on JG and AT. They isht the bed against GS by using it as scrimmage game while GS actually came to play ball. Play them again and we run them by 45, so that game literally tells you nothing other than a bad learning experience.

WHO DO YOU GOT RIGHT NOW?

You know the answer.
“The coaches did great vs BYU” LOL we played down to a damn Mountain West team and scored 16 in regulation.

There’s no way to know who would “take” a job, but I feel pretty comfortable saying if you put Dave Doeren, Mike Leach or hell, even Mel Tucker and their staffs in place last January, they find a way to beat mighty BYU and Goliath Georgia State.

Chaney didnt get dumb over night.

No he didn’t but Chaney, like every coordinator, has core philosophies and route concepts. You can tweak but you can’t change.

It’s why i didn’t want Chaney and why i said we wouldn’t make a bowl game if we hire him. Not that he’s bad or anything but what our players strengths and what they showed they could do last year under Helton is the exact opposite of what Chaney likes to run

Wondering what the hell is going on? Is it the coaches? Is it the players? Combination of both? Not sure, not there day in and day out. All I can truly judge is the product on Saturdays. As such, I do see potential greatness and unbridled talent in:

To'o To'o, Gray, and Crouch

Also see potential with several others

While technically this is CJP's second recruiting class, in all reality, it is his first class where more time and attention were afforded to really assess "his type of guys". Because of this, I want to see more. I am intrigued to see what a full team of To'o To'os, Grays, Crouches, etc at the respective positions will look like. Maybe Bailey will be the answer at QB, maybe he won't, but if he can live up to his role like some of the other freshmen have, then we might have something special brewing. Only time will tell.

Pruitt until it's not...GO VOLS!
You my fried are within reason. We have to allow Pruitt to bring in all his guys. So all we have to do is be

Does anyone have a recent example where a coach took over a program, had 2 historically bad seasons with historically bad losses, but eventually turned it around and became a championship level coach?

That's not a rhetorical question, I'm genuinely curious if there is precedent for giving a coach 4 or 5 years even if the first 2 or 3 are horrendous.

Also, isn't it crazy how similar arky and Tennessee have been these last 7 years or so? They're going through the exact same thing we are right now.

We held on to butch for 5 years for that very reason. Was that good for us?
I’m not advocating for anyone. I just don’t see a quick fix here. And to answer your question absolutely not.

I have no clue how to fix this

This is irrelevant though. Who is the replacement that comes in after Pruitt? Given our track record of searches I don't trust us to suddenly pull a big name when we settled for a freaking Coordinator with ZERO experience as a head coach and still paid him more than 80+ other coaches in the FBS are making.

Give me a shot UT. Just pay me in beer. I’ll go out there in some jorts and a sleeveless hoodie, run up and down the side lines. May not win but we sure as hell will have the most hype coach in America.

Edit: don’t smoke before 12 anymore.

That UNC win was impressive.

The OC/QB coach ties to Boise State and NC State are what really set him up to take over at Appy State. He took over some talent and is 3-0, given how well former coaches from Appy State seem to be doing at bigger schools I am sure he keeps winning he'll get hot fast.

Same. I see all the arguments for keeping him and for firing him tomorrow. There is no positive outcome imo. We are doomed for several more years either way. People are crazy if they think recruits are going to come to a program that loses to byu and GA St and gets obliterated by most everyone else. They're also crazy if they think proven coaches will come to our dumpster fire of a program.
