I dont think he has the tools. He cant read pre-snap. He cant shift protection. He cant audible into a good play. He cant manage the clock. He cant read through his progressions, he cant throw his guys open and he cant do anything but stare down his receivers. What else is there? Who are your top coaches you want to see get targeted when we go 2-10?

I don’t think we’re going 2-10. It’ll depend on if we can steal the South Carolina or MSU games.

Get one of those and I think you can keep the kids engaged. Lose 5 straight and I think they’ll tune out. I’ve heard many NFL coaches say the tipping point on a losing streak is 4 games. Once you get to that point, even pros start thinking about the offseason. I’d imagine doubly so for college guys.

I would put in some packages for Maurer... 2-3 series a game to see if he can give you that spark and develop him. If he goes off, you’ve got yourself a QB, but to pull the rug on JG and then have Maurer be worse then costs you the engagement of JG when you need him again possibly

Good post, we may need JG at some point. Keep him engaged, but lighten the load and let Maurer run down hurry up, zone read stuff and see what happens.

I’m so dang conflicted on what we should do. I just think we are going to be better off swallowing our pride and ride this out. Give him 2 more years and see how we are progressing. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen things that made me say he’s not the guy but maybe he will learn from his mistakes and we can eventually turn this crap around. Maybe he can grow into the guy.

I get closer to this in the middle of most weeks, until Saturdays. Then I realize that this guy is just clearly in over his head. There’s underperforming and then there’s doing what Jeremy Pruitt is doing.

Bruin, not all contracts are the same. I believe mitigation clauses are a more recent trend in coach’s contracts.

IDT Butch wants to coach again. I think he'll ride out his multimillion-dollar UT retirement package at Bama, courtesy of Sexton and Saban, then retire back in Michigan-- maybe coach HS or youth football, live on the lake and enjoy his millions stress-free.

I just hope all the new on the hill have learned to negotiate to benefit the university, and in a not so much nice way, hope Butch eats his cigar in a wrong way.
