That 2015 squad had 4 losses, back to back blown leads against OU and UF, an inexplicable loss to Arky, and led bama with only a few minutes left at Tuscaloosa. Too bad we had an idiot for a head coach who didnt understand clock or game management. With a competent coach we are in a very diffwrent place right now. We were on the cusp of our return, and even then we signed 35 that class. Cant even do that now, and expect things to get better and sooner rather than later.
You could never really sign that many per class. You had to pay the piper one day. We were just doing credit card signing to the extreme, which we are still paying for even into the 2020 class, requiring a blueshirt to even hit 25. Fwiw I think it was 32 in 2014 and maybe 30 in 2015. '16 and on we were limited. That scheme only works for a short while and finally implodes.

Do transfers, grad transfers, and JUCOs count against the 25 cap?

Yes, but you can also back count or forward count them still.

I actually think that's where Pruitt inherited the biggest headache. He's yet to have the ability to get a full 25 because he was still dealing with some of Jones' forward counted gets.

Although I'm not sure where we ended up with the 2019 class, I think 22 + 4 transfers, so he either had one count towards 2020 or was able to back count to an earlier class. It's a mess and confusing honestly.

Precisely. It was 38-23 and we scored a garbage TD when they emptied their bench so that the 3rd and 4th stringers could say that they played in the game where GA State beat Tennessee in Neyland Stadium. Makes me want to puke...
Hard time believeing they had backups in a 2 score game. We recover the onside and we get a hail mary with JJ and MC in the end zone...get that "garbage time" talk out of here. Doubt Shawn whatshisface coach is that stupid

No room to backcount. We took 22 + 2 transfers. That Safety from NC didn't make it of course, he was our 25th.

Pruitt has still been able to sign 25. We had enough past blueshirts to keep blueshirting forward a little. But blueshirting is effectively done away with now with the hard cap. Can only backcount to get over 25.

VN logic:

We have too many quitters. Let them hit the transfer portal. We can replace them with people who quit from other teams!
Thing I hate the most is it kills depth. Just because a guy sees a route to a 5th season doesn't mean he isn't a contributor or depth guy here or isn't trying. Easy for fans to say kids aren't trying. It's an easy excuse to quell our thoughts of how we could be so bad. "They just aren't trying hard enough. They must have quit". Maybe this is all they have...seems more accurate the way the past 3 season have gone. Simply aren't good. It's not like kids are quitting from game 1 and giving up on NFL dreams by having a trash season.

Yeah, it seems like he’s too close to the program to see this thing is going to fail spectacularly.

I understand and respect people so invested in it might have their head down just trying to get it fixed.

I said when we hired him if he wasn’t the right person for the job, it may never really get fixed in my lifetime and I’m in my 50’s. This year would’ve been fine with average QB play. Dooley and Butch recruited good wide receivers but lacked at LOS and QB. This is the result but should’ve never lost to GSU. Our best chance to get competitive sooner than later is with Pruitt. Otherwise, program will be dead till the right guy is found and if that happens, still a four to five year thing. I don’t think they can find nor get that kind of guy right now for next year. Pruitt is safe and will be given the chance to prove he can do it. We need him to do it. If he stops working hard and recruiting his tail off then he gets let go. As long as he keeps working like heck and recruits top 20 then he keeps his job. Unless he kills someone AND gets caught.

Just looked it up.

2019 we had 22 with 2 transfers that counted (Solomon & Gibbs). Kasim Hill & Braden Collins are both walk-on transfers and don't count towards that 25 cap or our 85 (yet). So 2020 I think we can sign 25 finally? There's probably a +/- 1 there. Bama had 27 in 2019 somehow...so who knows.

I wish Pruitt hadn't gone the JuCo/Transfer route in his 2 early classes though...hard to build a legit foundation with limited eligibility guys coming in.

2018 - JuCo guys: DWA, Jordan Allen, Gooden, Jahmir Johnson, Kenneth George Jr. = all can be gone after this year and none have given us any real meaningful production/impact as of yet
2019 - JuCo guys: Savion, Middleton Transfers: Solomon, Gibbs = production/value is TBD but so far the 2 JuCo guys haven't done anything and only Solomon seems to be playing a lot

Think when Harris fell out we took a 3rd transfer and counted that on last class. Don't believe we can back count with this class.

It's dead.

Think someone mentioned getting a counter back for Mcbride but I'm not 100 on that.

We scored with 2 seconds left in the game, and hadn't scored a touchdown since the 1st quarter.

I just looked it up and saw where we scored our last TD with 2 seconds left. So we scored that last TD on 4th stringers who were just happy to be on the field and not trying to prove anything. I'm trying to patient but that game and performance are just so unforgivable.

Right we couldn't back count regardless. Still need a blueshirt just to reach 25 this year I believe.

Who is this mystery 3rd scholarship transfer? Pretty sure we would have heard of this. I'd say they just let it go so we don't have to use 2 blueshirts this cycle. Would have been really slim pickings that late in the cycle to get a transfer anyway, probably nobody they really wanted anyway.

@MoCo_Vol touched on it. Was the receiver from Appy state Braden Collins, but apparently he walked on.

Who really did shoot JR?

We have this reputation at UT of being dysfunctional in the way we manage our affairs. I know our fans had a revolt over a certain candidate for the HC position last go round but we had this reputation long before that happened. The administration and the power boosters are I think where the finger is normally pointed.

Derek Dooley has intimated in the past that he had no choice in the hiring of Sal Sunseri as his defensive coordinator in 2012. I understand that unless you’re the Pirate as a football coach you can’t just come straight out and throw your “employer” under the bus. I have in the past took Dooley’s comments to imply that Sunseri was forced on him by Dave Hart. I’m beginning to think that is not the top of the food chain. Dave Hart may not have had a choice either. (By the way, Dooley’s comments were made in a live stream broadcast he made years after the fact. The host of the broadcast was Clay Travis and I know many here see Clay as somewhat like the Charlie Frost character in the movie 2012).

So now I’m hearing that Jeremy Pruitt was not necessarily Fulmer’s choice to be our HFC this time around. Some people are saying Pruitt was Charlie Anderson’s choice. We are told now by anonymous insiders that Pruitt is “Protected”. Are Fulmer’s hands tied?

Stay tuned.

Since it seems pointless to engage in my usual graphic comments regarding the impending success of our football program I am presently relegated to recapping shows like Big Orange Sunday, Big Orange Hotline, Vol Calls, and spending much of the rest of my time trying to uncover the mystery players behind the demise of our football program, a.k.a. Who really did shoot JR?

To be continued.....
