I took over a district that was failing...after about a month, I'd identified the staff I needed to replace and moved forward to do that. There were 3 (out of about 21) that I thought could be salvaged. I spent a lot of time, energy, and focus on them because of their experience & skills - which meant that the ones that were doing things right and working in a positive way, I shorted. Once I finally realized this, I let the last 3 go. It was a bit rocky for a while because the new people had to lean on each other and their supervisors but within 2 weeks, you could see the difference in the attitudes and energy level. Lesson learned for me.Like many here I've hired and fired people and one thing I learned the hard way is once u have determined a mistake was made on a hire, rectify immediately.
It does neither party any good to delay the act..
