Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

My last comment on the matter, and feel free to ignore:

Recruits are watching how the fanbase handles the adversity of the next month. And by recruits, I mean some that we really, really want and will be on campus in the coming weeks. They feel that they will be the difference next year and are excited to get on campus and kickstart the rebuild. But they wonder about playing in a toxic environment where fans are against them. And they wonder about committing to coaches who've told them they would be here, but are getting trashed by fans. They wonder what kind of family UT really is. Relationships and support: they matter.
This is so important. This fan base is amazing and passionate, but it’s a double edged sword. We need to consider what approach is CONSTRUCTIVE depending on the situation. Mattress burning and Twitter revolt may have been appropriate when we were dealing with an administration that refused to listen and was actively degrading the program. This situation is much different, with an administration that is completely rebuilt for the better, and all data pointing to a unified and urgent effort internally. We have every right to be angry with a continually disappointing product, I just hope we have an awareness of what’s helpful and what’s detrimental.

I just don’t see fan discontent lessening over the course of the season. Realistically, I think the only reactions will be misery/anger or apathy.

It’s what happens when you squander all of your goodwill over a decade and a half.

Maybe I’m wrong and the fanbase will rally around a good qb performance or an unexpected win. I Hope that happens.

I hate to say it, but I think it really comes down to QB play and our staff's willingness to make the switch and stick with it. If what you are saying is true, then putting the "future" in along with all the other new talent is the only way to show the recruits he has a plan and should steady the fanbase... Reading through these comments, I think folks would be shocked at how well the fan base would act the remainder of the season in terms of support, if they saw that Pruitt was willing to try and fix the situation by putting in Maurer...
A pre-schooler can see there is no hope for a redshirt junior that is playing like a Jr High scrub... I hate it for the kid, but that is just a fact... The fanbase can then get behind a true "rebuild" and support the talent out there giving it everything they've got and trying to improve... I know I would support it... Pruitt keeps putting JG in, and oh well, whatever happens, that's then on him and you would have to use the term "you can't fix stupid."

I also think the fans would support it....show a change of directions here...at least the the backups have most of the year to gain experience....yes lots of fans would support it imo.....because one thing they are not going to support is what happened Saturday.
Change QB's and we might just show some progress after the bye week...2 weeks to work on it

I’m not saying this is true - in fact it’s 99.9% bullsh*t. But just get ready, the media storm is about to rain down on us. This won’t be the last rumor.

Lol some guy we've never heard of and the Fox Sports Knox guys are getting on board with this.

Should tell you all you need to know.

Caller just said on 104.5 Vandy allowed LSU to play a pregame show with their marching band.

We cannot lose to these nerds. I don’t care what happens this year please beat Vandy.
I would suggest that you start mentally preparing for it. There is a very strong likelihood, given the data that we've received so far, that they are going to boat race us. I know it was more of a shootout with them and LSU, but they scored 38 points. I'm not trying to be negative, I do realize that there's a chance we'll be better by then, and I sure as hell hope I'm wrong.

Yup. I’ll be there under the lights with the thousands of us who are the reason #EmptyNeyland will never happen.
For those that really hold tickets etc..It's like a good marriage, you get a little mad, but you're not leaving.

And out yesterday with my gear on, got a lot of comments from average fans. "Don't know if Pruitt's gonna make it. But they'll give him time ". So different than the message board shenanigans.

I agree, but keep in mind that message board members are often the most emotionally invested fans, for better or worse. There’s a lot of ticket holders that don’t follow UT 24/7/365, which is probably healthier, but they aren’t gonna feel as embarrassed, cheated, etc as those who eat/breathe it year round. It can be a frustrating faction of the fan base at times, but without it we’d likely be having a similar conversation about Currie/Schiano right now. Takes all kinds.
