DG's Takeaways from the Florida Disaster

QB problem is partly Pruitts fault should have pursued a transfer!!!

Hill doesn't count. He needed a transfer that was eligible to play THIS year. That's all on Pruitt. He bought into JG the practice player and ignored JG the saturday player. Hitched his wagon to a schizophrenic horse and it's come back to haunt him.

Fabulous review as always DG. I love these and you are pretty accurate and balanced most times.

I do disagree here tho.

#1 Defense was not B+. C+ maybe. UF can't run the ball and we stopped that till the very end. But, they gashed us in the mid range passing game. They moved the ball in the 1st 3 Qs at will with 5-12 yard passes all over the middle of the field. Rarely any pressure w/o blitzes.

#2 You rightfully identified the QB woes. And you even spoke of the OL holding up for JG, which is a gigantic improvement! But this OL can NOT move any defensive front to create running lanes. Last year they sucked at both. This year the pass blocking has improved, but we still can't run.

Overall, great report as usual. You're good at this.

I agreed with almost everything you said, defense graded out as a C for me. I get why you would say B bc they had the deck stacked against them. With a better offense yeah probably they are a B grade but I didn’t see above average defense for the whole game.

I will say this with regard to QB and coaching.....

People brought it up earlier and it's true.

JG may be limited. JG may not be great. But, he's better than what he has been this season.

Lane Kiffin thought Crompton could do some things, realized he couldn't, and changed what they did in the passing game to allow Crompton a chance to be successful.

It's clear, at least to me, that JG is lost mentally right now and that is on coaches. If you have to dumb it down, dumb it down.

If you do that, I don't think he misses throws like he did to DWA. But, his confidence is completely shot.

DD, I don't always agree but don't ever dismiss your thoughts.

I agree with the defense. It is ALL on the defense that the Vols put up 3 points? Hmmmm??? The offense was horrid.

Perhaps one of the serviceable QBs -- if there is one -- can hold the fort until the 2 anticipated arrivals next year. A lot of teams are winning with freshmen QBs and maybe the Vols can figure that out, too.

There seems to be a total lack of concentration and desire. Those are key to winning programs. I am not convinced that the staff is holding the players accountable. The fans seem to be totally crapping on the staff. Perhaps the players are being coddled. If so, then it's on the coaches. If not, it's time to start some of 'em on the pine benches.

I don’t think you can dumb down things enough for JG.

It appears, with DG's post combined with the general flavor of the board, the fans think this year is done. So much so we need to think about, prepare for, and play for 2020 and beyond. We aren't winning the east. We aren't beating UGA or Bama. There is no reason to invest in this year.

This might have been the shortest season in UT history.

Do you agree? Serious question.

I do now. After the loss to Ga St and BYU the hope for a bowl was over. I thinks it’s time to look to 2020 and beyond. Never dreamed we’d be in the position but it is what it is.

I agree. The only interesting wrinkle moving forward will be: does he play the young guys and risk physical or mental injury, or does he play the less veterans to protect the future players.

Beating Vanderbilt is still on the table.

Why do we have one like you in every thread? These kids were recruited to play at FL, UGA, Clemson, LSU, AL, etc., they didn’t begin to suck by simply choosing to come to UT. They are horribly coached. Period!

My wife and I attended the LSU Vandy game. First, let me say LSU will crush UF this year. The LSU Bama game is going to be a blast to watch.
Secondly, as we were walking back to our car we were held up where the Vandy players exit the stadium and cross the street to the Fieldhouse. The team is really small. One young man greeting his parents and girlfriend had a LBs number and is smaller than me.
Lastly, to your point, meh.

He has been lost since his freshman year.

Most people I knew wanted him benched last year.

At some point you have to cut your losses and move on.
