Nigel Warrior should have intercepted the first throw of the game by Kyle Trask, but instead took a step forward and allowed the receiver to get position and make the tackle. Those plays from a four-year starter are unacceptable. Pruitt and Co. have to fix this problem quickly. If you cannot then you give the reigns to Jaylen McCollough or Tyus Fields and take the lumps that come with a freshman learning curve.

Couldn't agree more. That first pass was lofted up and should have been a pick or at the very least swatted away. Instead, Warrior was out of position and the Wideout was able to catch wide open.

I guess as @InVOLuntary and @HankHill have alluded to, it seems like Pruitt got the older guys to buy in which is why you saw so little in terms of transfers after the coaching change and then made the comment about getting better players in here and the older guys were out after that. In any case just like JG doesn’t need to see the field neither does warrior.

Was the coaching bad or was the QB play just so bad that the rest of the team looked bad? I mean..

QB cant hit the broadside of a barn
WRs suffer
D is on the field longer which gets them worn down

The only other thing that looked bad was the pass rush which, in turn, makes coverage look bad because the QB has all day to throw.

Yes

As bad as the past 11 years have been, this next part probably will hurt worse. But at this point, it’s the only way. The popular conspiracy theory whispered in college football circles is that this is all a master plan by Fulmer to get himself back on the sideline after he was unceremoniously fired in 2008 — that he is college football’s Count of Monte Cristo. But Fulmer knows better. He knows he must give Pruitt enough time to try to build a roster that can compete in the SEC. That’s Tennessee’s only hope. The reset button won’t work. Tennessee fired Butch Jones less than two years ago. Another firing, no matter how dire the record, would only make matters worse. So much churn in so few years would only scare away recruits who crave a stable place where they can be trained to play in the NFL. Plus, the last thing the Vols need at this point is a Frankenstein roster built by three different administrations. The losses are going to pile up with this team, but at least Tennessee fans can accept that and deal with reality on reality’s terms. At least they can stop hoping that Tennessee will magically improve. Georgia State wasn’t a fluke. It was a statement of fact. BYU wasn’t a miracle upset by the Cougars. BYU merely needed a miracle play to avoid getting upset by Tennessee.
This is most likely true. However, if we're this pathetic next year, time to cut bait imo.

When your backup cant either, then its a total failure. Staff didnt get JG any better AND wasnt able to prepare a backup...didnt bring in a transfer. It's a full player and staff failure all the damn way around.
Plenty of blame to go around, no doubt.

I’ll give pruitt a lot of credit and leeway if he starts playing freshmen. He talked about it before the year. I think he knows what he needs to do but is worried about losing the locker room. He needs to nut up and just go for it though

Guys - change the QB, change the future. Let the new QB get all the reps with the 1's for two weeks. JG is a huge problem. Chaney cannot unleash the full O scheme with him at QB - no trust at all. The D gets tired from being on the field all the time. More than the D-line, the secondary stinks at zone coverage. Can't have them out there 35 minutes plus per game. Add in Pruitt's questionable in-game decisions (sound familiar?) and you get this week after week.
I agree. Chaney should be in the office tonight scheming a system for Maurer. JG should only be on the field in the huddle during timeouts and running through the T at home games.

I think, if Pruitt is not the answer, our best option is to have Fulmer coach for 5-6 years and, during that time, have someone ready to promote after hes done. Best way to stabilize the program in my opinion.

Just like judging a coach based on their appearance, the narrative that a successful coach's success doesn't matter because their success hasn't been in the SEC is a dumb one. Saban came from the Big 10 and didn't even win The Big 10 while he was there. Meyer came from a non power 5 Utah and Les Miles came from Oklahoma State. James Franklin came from Maryland and Hugh Freeze went from NAIA to Arkansas State to winning in the SEC. Besides once you get past Alabama, Georgia and LSU the rest of the SEC schools could get beat by any school from a power 5 conference on any given night.

Y’all really need to read this. Some hard truth on players and more specifically veterans and Jones recruits. Well done

I agree with this quote:

"The only indefensible move Pruitt could make at this point would be putting these same players on the field every Saturday and expecting a different result."
