Why was Maurer pulled?

Coach Pruitt said in the postgame that they wanted JG to watch a series to see how the game looks from the sideline. Take that any way you want...

I might be reading too much into this but I still think many are missing something important with Pruitt's comment. If he wanted JG to see what was happening on the field from the sidelines, he didn't. The young man stood behind other players and wasn't engaged. My guess is he probably didn't talk to Maurer between series. Look I get you were just benched but he wasn't effective the entire first half. It is questionable the way JG should've responded but his leadership is one of the things that has been a concern.

Why was Maurer pulled?

‘Cause although there was an initial “spark” to the offense...he SUCKED asMUCH or MORE than Guarantano
Yeah... he started to fling it without concern to where it was going... lost focus. Needs more coaching.

Not many kids are going to take a benching easily. The only person who has done a good job dealing with it the last few years is Jalen Hurts. Just think if your job demoted you, you would be salty and looking to leave.

Most any other team would be benching JG at this point. His line play hasn't been terrible, it's been on him more times than not and that is just they way it is. JG always looks worried, timid or upset, he never has any fire about him. Tired of the same old defeated look. BM played with passion and was at least trying to spark the players around him. GBO!

He was pulled because he was making bonehead mistakes, same as JG. Maurer started out playing well, but then he started regressing.

It also afforded JG the opportunity to go out and redeem himself...which he didn't really do but he played better than the first half.

He went 4 for 11 for 44 yards and a pick.

He was worse than JG in every measurable stat.
He led us on the longest drive we had all day and was playing when we scored our only points without practicing with the starters all week.

Hell, I believe we had more yards with Maurer playing than with JG in a third of the snaps.

Lack of experience.
The defensive ends didn’t rush in an effort to stay in throwing lanes and seal the edge if he ran. That’s why there were so many batted balls imo. I don’t remember any getting batted down over the middle but then again it was a good adjustment by Mullen knowing that Chaney would look to keep it in the flats.

He threw a pass into triple coverage when he has a receiver wide open on the other side of the field.
True, but if we pulled JG for making similar stupid mistakes, he'd only play 5 or 6 plays per game. Give the kid a chance, give him some game time, get him some real (quality) coaching, he'll do great.

You gotta be kidding me dude! He doesn’t practice with the 1s! Give the kid a break for not being as prepared as our 3 year starter
sounds like an excuse. so when he does and he stinks, what will it be? "oh, it was his first time out". then "oh, it was his first time...fill in the blank".

all we heard about was all these freshmen qbs across the country doing well, he gets his shot.....stinks it up passing like we already knew......and here comes the excuses. is he ur son?
