Maurer should be the starting QB for the remainder of the season.

Ut Oh.....if Pruitt puts JG in to start the GA game the lights really will go out...you know, last one out turn off the lights.....I think the fans of the game will just melt away....
He’s no doubt losing the fan base quickly. But it’s also unfair to expect a true freshman that doesn’t even practice with the 1s to look any better right out of the gate. Now that we are heading into the SEC gauntlet there will be those that chatter “I told you he wasn’t as good as JG.” I think CJP made a HUGE mistake not going with Maurer to begin with and making him out to be worse. If anything he’s equal but would’ve only been better by now if he had 4 games under his belt.

Didn't read through all the garbage.

Just here to point out that he went 4/11 for 44 yards and a pick.

and went 0/2 vs UTC.

And this is the guy you want to start?

I'm so thankful coaches don't listen to their idiot fans.
He went 4/11 with being thrown to the wolves and NO practice with the unit he was out there with. Vs UTC he would’ve been 1/2 for 50-70 yards and possibly a td if Keyton made the play he was brought in here to make. JS

Because Maurer was even worse.

Nevertheless, I'm at the point where I'm ready to go with Maurer. He's a true Freshmen and he's underestimating the size and speed of SEC defenders. He'll adjust eventually. Might take him some time.

I don't think JG is ever going to be a good leader. He's a better "passer" than anyone else on the team, but the offense feels totally out of sync with him in there. There's no energy or communication. At this point, I'm almost just willing to live with the fact that Maurer is probably going to throw 2-3 picks for the next few games in exchange for the fact that he might be able to move the offense and score some TDs occasionally.

In 2020, we have a wide open QB competition with Maurer, Bailey, Hill, and Shrout.

Yeah, Bailey is going to stay committed to this dumpster fire

Don't disagree with your posts. No need to call JG garbage but I do think Maurer needs to be given the keys. Going to be some rough times with the upcoming schedule but I'd like to see him hey his shot
Nope he IS garbage. Stop using him and stop it now.

When that little ****threw an interception he got on sidelines and was screaming at his team mates...he’ll they should have been screaming at HIM!!

I would work on Shrout for the next two weeks. He threw the ball into the ground rather than into coverage (discovered late). A few of the passes hit hands...

Release seemed quick enough.

I guess I'd pick JT because he threw it into the ground instead of into coverage, and none of his plays made the coaches show.

Bailey won't be here

Maurer is a freshman and can only improve. JG is garbage and somehow gets worse every game. This season is going to be an absolute disaster regardless, so why not let the freshman get some experience and improve?
You right, if the logic is were young and improving then let him or Shrout take their lumps too...

I think JG did just enough last season to make everyone think he had the potential to be good. Also many who have observed practice in person say that JG is the better qb in practice. Hard to believe.

The previous OC's protected him. They didn't stretch him. That's why he had such "good" statistics but no production. A good completion % but only 1900 yds and 12 TD's. They've spent a year trying to build his confidence and decision making. They invested in him. IMO, Pruitt bet his job on the hope that Chaney, Weinke, and Martin could turn JG's physical talent into a good QB.

It seems that JG just doesn't "think" like a QB. He suffers from confidence issues which have infected the whole O. Someone mentioned they look out of sync. They do. They look like a team that doesn't have internal trust and doesn't have a leader at the QB position.

JG is apparently a practice warrior. He's great when there's no pressure but melts when there is.

I don't know if Maurer is the answer or Shrout. I'm just 99.999999% convinced that JG will never be the answer.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m not sure if its Shrout or Maurer either, but I do know, JG is maxed out. We’re not going to get any more out of him. The disappointing thing for me with JG is his lack of leadership. This should be his team and it’s obvious it’s not. It’s time to start grooming the freshmen.

As a QB, he is garbage. Any competent QB could read defenses and feel pressure, especially has a 4th year player. Good student, good person, but he's made no advancements in the game mentally and that's an attitude problem.

He's a Vol and he's a kid trying his best. Keep it constructive or gtfo.

I don’t get why they brought JG back. Pruitt doesnt seem like he has clue of what to do.

I think if Maurer at least doesn’t throw multiple balls outside the field of play he would’ve stayed in. Hell it cost us a 1st and goal and could’ve been a game changer by simply not tossing it 10 yards out of bounds.

My worst indictment of Guarantano is the missed opportunities in the first half. Two Florida turnovers on their side of the field and no points to show. The interception off of Jennings hands may be explained as not on him, but those results happen to QBs like him! They don’t get the bounces...cosmic or karma kind of ****!

Yeah maybe. Throws he’s missing in his first extended action as opposed to the same for a redshirt junior in his THIRD YEAR of such! We all know how difficult a card JG has been dealt with 4 different OCs in 4 years on campus, but at some point you just have to be able to THROW WELL when you’re a Quarterback.

Strangely, JG has regressed from last year to this year. I just don't understand why he can't seem to get better. Perhaps he is thinking tooooo much! He can't just do the plays naturally. He is never going to be a good decision maker and keep the offense on track. He just doesn't have what it takes.

I can't believe just how BAD we are at QB. I bet if you listed ALL the QBs in the SEC, none from Tenn would be in the top 30. Just look at Trask, he is MUCH better than any QB on our roster and he was not a starter at Florida! USCw is on their 3rd QB and still beat a top ranked team.

I just don't understand our issues? Pruitt's stubbornness may be his downfall (just like Phil Foolmer).
He was not even a starter in High School..lol!

He's 22 years old. Let's stop pretending he's a little kid that we can't criticize. While some people may go a little overboard, he's a grown man and is fair game for heated criticisms.

JP said he was only trying to light the fire under JG.
Wow, thanks. The change actually lit a fire in me that maybe we have the right guy, that he was moving on and changing the culture. Needless to say I am not on fire since we are seeing the same old thing. I am over caring since the players don’t. I grew up with Condredge Holloway and this slop is embarrassing. There was a guy who laid it all out there.

I remember making similar remarks towards Dobbs when he was struggling a good bit.

I now realize how much of an idiot I was.

I have also been making similar remarks against JG.

I now realize how warranted all of those have been.
