Maybe his source just doesn't want UTK fans to expect someone like Gruden? Most of us who spend significant time on these boards know who the up and comers are but the average joe on the street probably thinks Bronco Mendenhal is a rodeo star and Will Muschamp is some kid who works at the Walgreens down the road.
So somebody thinks there aren't many top coaches available? I call BS not only because of this line but because it just sounds fishy. There are plenty of young, hungry guys out there that would love a job as HFC at Tennessee.
That makes sense.
I think everyone can agree CPF is a Vol and appreciated for the NC.
I just wish after the Bama game he would bow out with grace and dignity instead of fighting like I'm afraid he'll do.
You don't get to where he is without being a fighter and from every credible source it seems like CPF is one hell of fighter.
another thing to consider, and i obviously dont' have any idea whether or not any of the rumor in this thread is true or not, but the fact Clemson is on the market, if UTK is going to be in the market for a coach, then that may be forcing UT's hand a bit.
it's all being well chronicled what FLorida and UNC were able to do by getting in the market early to go after Meyer and Davis. the last thing Hamilton needs right now is to be sitting there in December knowing that this decision was coming but having sat on his hands while Clemson got the guy we might have an eye on, because he wanted to see how we fared in the Bama game.....or any other game for that matter.
Lex, that silence you speak of by Hamilton is only broken by the wringing of hands i'm sure he's doing when thinking about all of this and what he might have to do......shortly. especially if something like this were true.......then you really can't wait, can you?
imo, if Fulmer would go ahead and announce now that he is retiring at the end of the year, people would think a lot more of him and they would come out and support him the rest of the year regardless of what happens. At least we would know we are getting a new coach for next year. Not saying things will be any better, but we have no choice at this time.
probably. Technically speaking, it's not like anything can legitimately happen until the season is over, unless a guy currently not coaching is a realistic option, a la Kiffin. no need to rush on something if you don't have to, i can understand that. but....if the decision is already made or it's a foregone conclusion.....i also don't see the need to go thru the motions from this or that point forward, whatever point that may be (after MSU loss, Bama loss, etc...)....My best guess...purely speculation...performance expectations were given prior to the season that have already gone unrealized.....I think the wheels have already started turning.
Could be wrong...purely speculation.
If that is the case, I hope to goodness the feelers are out.
On one hand you don't poke your nose into too many holes sniffing for a coach during the season. On the other hand, you don't want to be left in the cold.
I don't see how they can get too public about anything just yet. Keeping quiet for as long as possible reduces chances of an embarrassment factor.
Finnebaum asked the question, is Muschamp = Saban or is Muschamp = Ed Orgeron.
Gee, I guess Finebaum mines VN for ideas. Hi, Paul.
