Probably true and we'll probably need them with our lackluster DL. But Mullen knows this too...then come the screens. Could just come down to which playcaller gets lucky with the right calls at the right time. Ansley will have to balance aggression with screen and option awareness. Imo they don't beat us right up the middle, but on the edges.

Our defense it prone to over pursuit so misdirection, backside screens, reverses will all be utilized I would bet.

They'll go for 250-300 this week. I absolutley hate this game...tears me up inside. Every statistic is thrown out the window in this game.

Their biggest plays have been random guys, probably on jet sweeps or trick plays:
Hammond - 1 rush for 76 yards *Jet sweep
Clement - 1 rush for 41 yards
Emory Jones - 4 rushes for 31 yards (fwiw, he sucks at passing. Only 1 of 4 on the year, all vs Tenn-Martin...for 2 yards)
Copeland - 1 rush for 15 yards *Jet Sweep

There's 40% of their rushing yards right there in 7 plays. In typical UT-UF fashion, I expect at least 1 of these to go for a near-backbreaking TD at some point. It will be right when we think we got eem, then some Trey Burton garbage will pop up.

So was this a question or a comment?

k.
both. look, all i'm saying is that you just said that Florida has all these disadvantages this year and we should take advantage because this is maybe the only time in the near future we'll be able to upset these guys....that's basically what you said.

i mean, that's like the mantra around here during florida week....a tale as old as time. so what you don't care about CC scandals...and suspensions...and injuries....doesn't matter, they had the same, or worse, issues headed in to last year's game, and we got curb stomped.

and that's why this series is so incredibly frustrating. there have been more than our fair share of opportunities to take advantage of a Florida program that was ready to be taken advantage of, especially over the last 5-6 years, and all but once we failed to do so because, usually, of our own ineptitude.

that's a real thing.

it doesn't mean that will have any bearing on this game. because unlike some of those other years, this year Florida probably is a little better than we are right now, and probably should win the game as a result.

and saying that isn't being a bad fan.

too much stuff around here is an either/or proposition. i'm trying to find some way, any way, to find some confidence headed in to this game. Bass and i have discussed several match ups that COULD help in that category. so if you want a path to victory...i think we've laid some things out that could get us there.

he's predicted a win. i've predicted a loss. but for both of us, the reasons have a whole lot more to do with football related stuff than the curse.

but at the same time..........you really can't ignore what has happened in this series...............it really is un-freaking-canny.

they can be mutually exclusive....and still the same result happens.

I may be in the minority buuuut...

The plays that will need to be made will fall on the secondary NOT necessarily JG. That’s where they’ve gotten the best of us when we otherwise have controlled them.

Deflect a pass, cover the open guy, intercept, get the receiver on the ground immediately, cover long enough for pass rushers to get back there, etc....

That’s where we will win or lose. Pass coverage/defense.

You can’t discount using jet sweeps, touch passes etc as extensions of the run game. It’s finding ways to get playmakers the Ball. You don’t have to dot the I to run the Ball. Multiple ways to cook a turkey amiright

We talk about how bad Franks is but we're afraid of the guy who wasn't good enough to beat him out..........I just don't get it.
You don't get it? If you don't get it, then you aren't paying attention. This is a team that lost to a very bad Georgia State team and blew a game against BYU in the last seconds of the game. We have tons of issues while Florida seems to be running fine, even with that backup. Could we win? Of course, but babbling about it being such a puzzling thing to not feel you could bet the house on us beating Florida is just being willfully oblivious or just trolling.

Literally us blowing a game against BYU and losing to GSU has absolutely nothing to do with his post about Kyle Trask. Nothing.

These are the scores from the last 5 games:

October 4, 2014 Knoxville, Tennessee Florida 10 Tennessee 9
September 26, 2015 Gainesville, Florida Florida 28 Tennessee 27
September 24, 2016 Knoxville, Tennessee #14 Tennessee 38 #19 Florida 28
September 16, 2017 Gainesville, Florida #24 Florida 26 #23 Tennessee 20
September 22, 2018 Knoxville, Tennessee Florida 47 Tennessee 21

All of them, with the exception of last year and the game that we beat their brains in, are one score games, two are 1 point games. And yet, to listen at guys on here talk, you'd think that we are never even competitive against them. The only reason the game got out of hand last year is because of turnovers, most of which were uncaused. This will be a competitive game barring those same disastrous type turnovers.

agreed. but the issue is losing, not being competitive.

just sayin'.

It’s Tennessee vs Florida. The running game is always a major key. Don’t let this be the week Florida figures out how to run the ball. Stack the box. Trust our secondary. Get after Trask.

If we do that, then it’s anybody’s game. If we do that and win the turnover battle, then we head home victorious.

Dude rushed for under 600 yards as a junior here. How is that possible? Properly utilized he should have had 2,000 all-purpose yards and 30+ TDs easily.

People in love with the "big, bruising back. Ya know he reminds me of Marcus Allen, with those long, gliding strides". Smh. Also LOVED the myth that he "lathers up as the game goes on". No he didn't. He was the worst statistically in the 4th quarter. He got weaker the more hits he took, as I suspect more RBs do than people think. Myths in football are a weird thing, as if the offense always gets better the more they are out there, but the defense gets worse. As if only 1 side wears down...and it is the side that is taking the hits and substitutes (at least on the LOS) less typically.
