"What have you been doing since you were fired Butch? Well I have kept the coaching staff's cars waxed and detailed. There was that incident where I didn't armorall Nicks ...I mean Mr. Saban's golf cart tires and I was put on probation. I collect his hair plugs when they fall out and his nail clippings for my mojo bag. I also make soup out of his athletic supporter and underwear but let's keep that on the down low. He was quite upset when he caught me making a batch. Other than that I have been a classless cigar smoking ahole sticking it to my old employer collecting a salary."Butch Jones![]()
Plus, virtually all of our starters only played a 1/2. Should be well rested.Day after random thoughts
- It's early, but something I'm rooting for almost as much as I am our slim to none bowl chase, is Jauan Jennings breaking Marcus Nash's 1997 single season touchdown record (13). Jennings as 4 in three games. For everything he's been for this team, he deserves it IMO.
- I really enjoyed seeing guys like Byrd, and Brandon Johnson making plays and contributing. Especially liked Byrds comments post game. Couple of VFL's.
- Kenneth George is kind of a forgotten guy to me. Low rated feel good story JUCO guy who came late. No impact last year and then the legal troubles. But he started yesterday and looked decent.
- I can't help but chuckle that Banks and Solomon both got INT's before Alontae. I'm a big AT fan and I've been rooting for him to get his first one for over a year now.
- Cedric Tillman appearance. Glad to see. We're gonna need him to step up next year. Hope he continues to get playing time.
- I think JG had a statistical good game, but still played bad, if that makes sense. First pass should've been an INT. Long touchdown to MC was underthrown and likely broken up if not intercepted had the corner not fallen down. He waited a half second longer than necessary on the JJ touchdown. I don't think he has a good game if we're playing a respectable team. Alas, hopefully its a confidence booster and we can build on it.
- That said, I definitely think he's the best QB on the roster. Mauer and Shrout looked like raw 'rookies' who had zero feel for the game. They're both at least another year or so away from even competing for real playing time IMO.
- I think my TV glitched for a minute because it looked like Nigel Warrior had an int at one point.
- Defensive line still sucks.
- HT is a beast. DB is a beast. Ignont was a dumbass for that penalty. So was Flowers.
- Kivon Bennett keeps getting so close to making impactful plays that it feels like he's going to break out soon.
- How awesome must that have been for Fred Orr... true freshman PWO getting some playing time. Good for the local kid.
- I've gone on record countless times my disdain for uscjr. They're in year 4 of muschamp - that's completely his roster, there is no rebuild, no transition, no changing systems. That is his team through and through - and he is 1-2 after choking against UNC and getting thrashed against UA. Game wasn't as close as the score dictated. So if you're a recruit, what is Muschamp gonna sell you that you can buy, if he cant even be competitive against the Clemons/Alabamas/Georgias in year 4?
- Although i will admit that that Hillinski kid is going to be a problem to deal with.
- TBH I'm fine with KY blowing it last night. Their fans deserve misery.
- And while I'm not sold that we defeat UF, I do like the idea that if we do, it's a win against a top 10 team at their house.
Lastly, I don't think we have the QB or DL to pull off a win in Gainesville... but heres reasons to be mildly optimistic:
- Our coaching staff is better than theirs. Mullen is such an awkward goober.
- One of their best pass rushers had his ankle iced up during the game. It'd break my heart if he had a high ankle sprain.
- Their starting safety will miss the first half because of his targeting call.
- They're coming off a night game and traveling home. We played an early game.
- Early kick off should eliminate some of the early crowd momentum.
My biggest fear is whatever gains we think we’ve made on the offensive line will be taken away - or prove to have been false gold - when going up against a legit SEC defensive line. If that happens, and JG gets thrown around a little bit, turnovers will likely start piling up.14.5 on the Vegas line looks about right. Like InVOL I had it at 17 after watching both games. UF gets Henderson back in the secondary. Hopefully, we answer with Thompson back in ours because we are going to need him. Trask is accurate without a pass rush. We have shown very little without blitzing, so our CB's need to be on their games in man coverage. Bituli should be able to take more snaps as well, which helps a lot.
Like UK should have - UT needs to control the outcome with offense. The best unit on the field last night was the UK O-line and the next best was their big receivers. Gran did not stay on point with his play calls in the second half. Chaney is going to need to do that for our game to have a good shot to win. The Vol O-line I saw starting yesterday can get the job done if they work as a unit. We have better RB's than UK. We have as good or better receivers than UK. DWA is a weapon if Chaney remembers to use him. We need Bryce back and a D-line that is angry. More Bumphus and D-Taylor getting after it.
I think people are also forgetting the state of their program. Transfers, suspensions, injuries, and their oline is suspect. Mullen has a mess on his hands. They really are paper champions right now . Thay haven't beat anyone of note.Day after random thoughts
