Pruitt vs chip kelly

I'll go with Pruitt on this one. I think Mora left Chip a better stable than what Butch left his predecessor. I figured UCLA would take a step back, but like us, they should be a little better in year two. But maybe that is just the ugly truth that flipping culture and a new philosophy takes longer than we are willing to wait.

Lol that’s tough cuz Chip has sucked at UCLA too but I’d give the nod to Pruitt simply because of recruiting. Kelly can’t even recruit out there it seems like.
and it's not like the Pac 12 is overly daunting.

but here we are again, in another discussion about who sucks more...us or them?

yippee.

And you could probably throw Frost in this conversation. There was a lot of hype around his second year, but it hasn't translated onto the field, yet.

either way.

i'm upset at myself for having posted in this thread.
No reason we should be honestly. I could have lived with taking an L to a middle of the road BYU team, would have still been pissed off but could have dealt with that, even with the fashion of how we lost that game. But absolutely no reason for that Georgia State loss. I still want to think that maybe, just maybe, they can rally the troops and have a decent season. Effort overall was much better Saturday night than the Saturday before. I just want to make a bowl game at this point. We go from talking 8-4 or 9-3 to basically staring 4-8, or God forbid, worse in the face.

well, Chip should be able to recruit better at UCLA...he's a been there, done that coach, so overall I'd say Chip is better, right now...he needs some time just like Coach Pruitt does...this question will be better answered in about 2-3 years...:D

GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eh. i want to hope too. and at times i find myself talking myself in to it.

but my head keeps going back to "our QB isn't very good" "our Front 7 hasn't really stopped anyone when it matters"

effort was much better against BYU. i think the game plan was good against BYU. but some of that has to do with how BYU matched up. they played a lot of Zone defense, which was in part why we were able to run the ball more effectively thru out the game. but when they decied to fill the box, we got nothing. forutnately they didn't do that the whole game. they played it right from a "defend" the pass standpoint.

offensively, their QB isn't great, and our defense did plaly much better. but that wasn't an SEC caliber team.

we're 2 games in, so i think there's oportunity to improve as the season goes on.

but our schedule is such that we may not ever see it in the results..............and i can't imagine this team has any real confidence right now.

i'm on "believe it when i see it" x 10 right now.

Pruitt has a better record, better recruiting classes and his guys like him.

Chip, well, total opposite of Pruitt.

I'd much rather have Pruitt. Not to say that I know whether Pruitt will be successful or not, but he has a blueprint that has worked successfully in the past (strong recruiting, great player development).

The problem with Chip Kelly is that his success at Oregon basically came down to a few magical factors:

(a) inheriting a great situation from Mike Bellotti, including a strong staff that he could lean on,
(b) out-scheming opponents with an innovative offense that defenses weren't prepared for,
(c) recruiting underrated talent with speed, but still getting a reasonable enough share of talent so they were ranked in the 20s in the recruiting rankings,
(d) having Nike's big money to help lure in recruits

He doesn't have any of those elements at UCLA. He does, however, have a much better recruiting footprint in his backyard, but Kelly has always been a terrible recruiter, so this advantage is being completely squandered. And now, every team in the country is prepared for his "innovative offense", because they've recruited and developed players for years to stop those types of offenses (whereas, they were caught completely off-guard in the early 10s).

Kelly doesn't get the advantage of inheriting Bellotti's staff this time around, which quite honestly, was comparable to the staff Fulmer inherited from Johnny Majors. Bellotti was excellent at building up that program over the long-run.

Chip Kelly's record at Oregon was phenomenal, but I've said this 2 years ago when everyone wanted to hire him: he's the most overrated coach in college football. I was praying that Florida would get him, because we'd be 4-0 against a Chip Kelly coached Florida team. He's basically RichRod, except with a much worse personality and deep hatred for recruiting. Not a recipe for long-term success.

If we're being honest, Chip Kelly is a great high school coach who hit the jackpot by being in the right place at the right time, but who otherwise, is still probably better cut out to be a high school coach.

I feel like the offense is a good QB away from being good, not great, but good enough. It’s funny you mention our schedule and how a couple of early losses have changed a lot of our perspectives on it. It appeared to be a more favorable schedule than what we’ve had in years past before the season started. 100% agree on the “wait and see” mode. I was all in with Pruitt last year and these last two weeks have made me take a step back.

I want to say this is a great week to get a little confidence back, get some pep in our step for Florida but they have to want to. Lord knows we need to get some before going to The Swamp next weekend. Only upside I see to that is it’s a noon game, might be able to catch them sleeping if we come ready to play.
