Question for the day:

Are Shrout and Maurer really so terrible that they can’t even make the coaches consider giving them a shot?

Pruitt looked absolutely furious after some of JG’s throws Saturday. As furious as we’ve seen him except for the time he kicked a whiteboard.

If JG can make him that furious and he still won’t even entertain the thought of giving another guy a shot, then the either other guys must be truly terrible or Pruitt doesn’t have a feel for how assess whether a QB is ready or not.
This is how I feel as well. He seems to be playing the best practice player. You can tell he hates to lose so I don’t understand why he wouldn’t make a change right now. Maybe he is waiting to see the other QB’s in a game and if one of them lights it up, he will make a change. Let’s hope it is UTC.

He’ll probably have a shot. Or best offensive strategy at this point is probably just to ride him and chandler as far as they’ll take us and let Cimaglia do work.

I just worry about those two holding up down the stretch. I wish we had a bigger back to mix things up a bit.

I wish we had one as well. We have Tee Hodge coming in, but to be honest, I saw the kid play last year, and wasn't impressed. They played Fulton and the kid didn't jump out. I hope he comes in and kills it because we need a workhorse.

Edit: I haven't seen him play this year. He also might have been hurt last year as well, I think I remember reading that.

I copied this from another poster and then you would have trust that McElroy knows what he's talking about.

"McElroy said this morning that Maurer isn’t ready. He said BM can’t identify the Mike LB on D."

But does anyone know if he really even said that? Didn't see/hear it myself.

I like Crouch at LB but is at least some snaps at RB out of the question?

How much practice has McElroy seen to be able to make a statement like that?

He got the information from the coaches and he might have watched practice before our game to prep.

To me the QB situation this weekend is this. Pruitt said JG hit his hand. Boom built in excuse to limit JG and use this game to find the back up. If the back up lights the Mocs up then maybe lean on the "he hit his hand" excuse going into Florida if they think the back up will be a better option

Mobility is an added plus, but not a necessity. The #1 thing the offense is missing right now is a QB who can make big throws.

I guess what I’m getting at is there’s no real reason to assume Maurer is what we need and not Shrout. We’ve only seen them once, really (in the spring game) and Shrout was better. If he can go in and just be an upgraded version of JG, that would be enough for the offense right now.

The way I look at it is,it’s been 3 years of S**t QB play.only to be “wowed” by his QBR rating which is always consistent no matter how bad he is.i mean in 3 years of football he’s thrown 20 touchdowns and 7 interceptions 👀👀👀😂😂 that’s enough for me.

That can’t be true, how would he have even made it through high school football in Florida not being able to identify the Mike?

I think a lot of us are looking for hope in a hopeless situation as @SpringBokVol said. Pruitt said JG is the QB. He’s not Butch. There are no games and stories about players falling on helmets. It simply is what it is.

Dollars to doughnuts he didn't say it, or it is being misinterpreted. Wouldn't surprise me if he said something like "I understand the fans wanting to put BM out there, but if he can't identify the Mike LB then you don't want to do it."

Which, of course, turned into "McElroy said BM couldn't identify the Mike LB".

1 of the reasons I'm asking, surprising given he's a rival.
The 2nd was if anyone did hear it, can they elaborate?
I didn't hear the exact quote. But the game announcers spend time with the coaches before the game to prep and get info to talk about during the game. That way they have an understanding of the teams they are covering that week and look like the know what they're talking about.

Maybe watched practice too.

If winning is the primary responsibility of a HC, do you choose to keep using the same key player(s) and do the same things when you are losing to teams with inferior talent? It’s a simple question with a simple answer. To continue to do so tells any observer regardless of fandom that winning is not the primary responsibility and goal, or, the HC makes poor decisions.

Most everybody on here wants to win first and foremost. That’s why we are struggling with all of this.

Darth - if you have observed the anguish of Chaney, Tee, and even Pruitt during the two games you can clearly see they are trying to make do with JG. That does not mean they do not trust the back-ups despite the media representations. It simply says Pruitt is willing to lose with JG and not chance anything changing with the others. Pruitt is the HC and makes all final personnel decisions. Chaney has been willing to play along since Pruitt is his boss. All of it tells me that Pruitt views his responsibilities differently than the fan base does. Hope the UTAD agrees with him and enjoys the fruits of their collective decisions.

Pruitt’s in-game situational decisions have been Dools and Botch cringeworthy at times. They have contributed big time to 4 straight embarrassing losses. To continue on this path will bury UT’s program for years. It has to stop now and Fulmer has to be the man to stop it.

I think your hate for Pruitt is starting to cloud your judgment.

I don’t hate Pruitt at all but it’s clear he will ride for JG even if it means having a good game plan installed to win and you leave 3 Td’s off the board because of the lack of vision and awareness this is year 3 for JG no excuses.Saban and Kirby would have already benched him.i understand they have better options behind their starter but I’m just saying over all.

Torn here as well. A bigger RB who can lean on defenses late in games would round out our rushing offense a lot and make an offense centered around the running game more feasible for us as the year goes on.

probably not much. but they do sit down with the coaches on friday before the games to do production meetings for talking points during the game, so i would imagine that came up, and he's going off what he was told by coaches.

assuming he did say that, i've not heard that? but of course, i haven't been looking too hard either.

If that’s true, we should not have recruited him.
