Pruitt not benching JG. Says he’s the best QB on the roster

Sorry Jg doesn't have a quick twitch muscle in his body. Probably should be a baseball pitcher, he has a good arm. But he can't move the sticks. He looks for the quick way out , be it finding a sack or throwing to the wrong man. He definitely needs a sports psychologist. He definitely gets in his own way. He will find a way out of all the tough games. Wish it wasn't true....hope someone else gets an opportunity to see what they can do.

I support the coach on that statement. Maybe only one or two people on Vol Nation have a better understanding of the realities of coaching this train wreak. The rest of us slept at home last night and probably not Holliday Inns. Not disparaging but, looks like truth to me. Do I think we will get better...yes. Should we all take a break from hyperventilating and try to help, cheer, go to games, support young athletes...definitely. So, til better play and wins shoos the boob birds away, Go Vols! Get better and win!

Lets be real for a second and quit pretending like those of us sitting on a couch every Saturday know better than Coach Pruitt who should be starting for our Vols. I'm not defending saying JG is a great QB I'm just saying I believe Pruitt when he says he's the best option we have right now. JG has made some poor decisions so far this year.. more so than even last year I believe, however, he's on his 4th OC in 4 years. Kid hasn't had the same playbook for consecutive years since high school. Those of you saying Pruitt is to blame for not recruiting over him are also idiots.. 1. JG was highly regarded and recruited out of high school. He's someone we happily took then and expected to contribute. 2. Blame Helton for us not having Adrian Martinez on this team.. He specifically decided he wanted Shrout over him. 3. I believe Mauer is a talented QB but he is also a true frosh. College is a totally different game and neither he nor Shrout have apparently demonstrated enough in practice to be considered a viable option. Pruitt & his staff are recruiting like mad men.. give them time to get their guys here and develop them.

BACK UP QB IS ALWAYS MOST POPULAR GUY ON THE TEAM WHEN THINGS AREN'T GOING YOUR WAY. REMEMBER WHEN OUR FAN BASE BASHED THE CRAP OUT OF WORLEY, DEMANDING WE START PETERMAN BC WE KNOW MORE THAN THE COACHING STAFF? YOU REMEMBER HOW THAT WENT? WORST QB START AND PERFORMANCE I CAN EVER REMEMBER. Losing sucks but this program isn't a one or two year fix. Pruitt needs time.
Get them!!!!

This thread is the perfect example of the the runaway train mob mentality we have right now. Nothing under the break peddle.

Well Phillip Fulmer thought someone else was a better option than manning, look how that turned out! Some players are gamers.

CJP has more football knowledge in his left nut than anybody posting. It’s hilarious to hear the bashing. Believing there’s some miracle quick fix is absurd.

JG has been a liability. I, for one, would love another option. But to think those young guys (FR at that) are better right now, is probably a stretch. I do hope he starts getting them some game experience and truly hope there’s a good ole fashion competition next summer for the starting job.

Shrout and Mauer should hear this and transfer...what incentive do they have to stay here if they have to sit behind JG as bad as he is?

If I were those players I would enter transfer portal, CJP anoints JG starter without anyone else getting a shot this is by definition of insanity, doing the same thing
over and over expecting a different result ………………………………..

Wrong. Left-nutted smart dudes don’t start going for two when the score is 24-6 (re: UGA last year).

Ridiculous. Stands will be half empty. Players and fans could rally around a young guy. Nearly everyone is done with JG, and rightly so.
The only one in JG's corner is CJP and it don't really matter at this point CJP can do what he wants to the tune of 4mil a yr, and good news for CJP
if he were fired he gets 9 mil and Vols hit reset button Coaches are so driven by their EGO..............................

Explain then how any other school in the nation can start a freshman and be goid, but we can't? It literally happens every single year.

Then Pruitt has likely sealed his fate. Not because he isn’t benching JG now, but because he failed to recruit over him.

Lol. As long as Pruitt wins 7 or more games next year when the team is made up of his guys for the majority of the two deep, he gets year 4.

He ain’t going anywhere this year unless he gets caught with a coed or punches a kid.

Yep. It is what it is. With that said they need to work on his timing and vision.
I’m no expert by any means, but I believe that timing and vision can be honed and improved with training and practice, but I’m not sure it can be created if it’s not already there by this time in JG’s development.

I just don’t think he’s got it, but again I’ve never met him or seen him other than on select Saturday afternoons. He often misses too many open receivers and routinely stares down his primary before he then forces a pass into double coverage just like he did against BYU. JJ salvaged one for a TD, the other hit a Cougar right between the letters.

Exact Pruitt Quote:
“There’s no doubt, if you’ve been around our program for the last six months, who the best quarterback on our team is.”
Coach speak. I'll bet $5 that either Maurer or Shrout ( or both ) take at least one set of downs against UTC. You know, to give JG a breather or extended sideline instruction. 😉
