Single biggest weakness on this team is JG. His play this year has been horrible.

By the fourth quarter, Chaney had no faith in JG and play-called accordingly. I can’t see how he would be any further constrained with one of the other QBs

Exactly my thoughts. I don’t see how one of the back ups doesn’t get a chance on the field next week.

Last week I thought this way but now I’m thinking the only way out of this hole is to support Pruitt and give him the time for a true rebuild. He’s a far better coach than the last few guys and surrounded by great coaches and all the support staff he needs.

The truth is with a good QB we’re 2-0 right now despite all the other issues. The best players on the team are freshman and sophomores, they wouldn’t even be playing yet at Bama or UGA or Clemson. We’re forced to play them before they’re ready. It’ll be the same way with the 2020 and 2021 classes as well.

There’s no way around this rebuild. Firing Pruitt isn’t the answer. Not this week, in November or next November. He didn’t suddenly become a bad football coach after arriving in Knoxville. Neither did Chaney or any of the other guys.

Recruit, develop and time is the only answer right now. Blowing it up will only delay any progress and no matter who the next coach is the same cycle will occur.

Again, a good QB and we’re 2-0.

Or maybe I’m wrong and let’s just keep firing and hiring new coaches every 2-4 years until one is able to win despite lack of talent and development.

This is why I mentioned giving him his full contract the other day. If beating Kentucky was the goal, then we are already in a successful rebuild. Thing is, the goal is to compete with and beat Alabama, UGA, FL and every few years have a shot at winning the SECCG and head to the playoffs. For that to happen, we are in a Kentucky level rebuild.

We see the youth out there ballin. We see an OL that looks the part, and started pushing people around yesterday. With a competent QB we are 2-0 and everything is right on track. Without that QB though, things are going to get worse before they get better, at least from a W-L perspective.

He’s right, not saying they played as they should have all game, but they were gassed by the end of fourth quarter and overtime.

Let's be honest. This year, JG has shown no leadership whatsoever. He's the freaking QB and he shows no emotion at all. He can't read defenses, he stares down his targets, telegraphs his throws, and he's not accurate. He plays scared, and given time for that fear to hit him, he keeps checking down to dump off passes despite having open receivers down field. And when presented with the option to run, he hesitates. I have no idea what is going on with him, but what I do know is I have no faith in him to lead this team. If one of the backups played with passion, that alone would be improvement. You can forgive a lot when you can see the player actually gives a damn. I'm not seeing that from JG.

I'm not an expert but I remember leaving some of those practices and thinking Dormady looked better to me. Obviously he had a few chances and didn't really capitalize. I'd like us to not make the same mistake twice. We do not move this program forward one inch by continuing to play JG. JMO.

Pretty crazy Pruitt was seen as a defensive mastermind but he can’t even get his defense to line up properly.

That is a major concern of mine.

Yea that wouldn’t make sense to me either. Weinke should be the first to go. He tried to leave last year and couldn’t find a good enough landing spot.

Then make a QB change or adjust your offense to things he can do....

He can hand the ball off, and throw check downs late. That's about it.

The fact that the media is taking this much time and attention to point out how bad he played, along with McElroy last night openly dogging him and almost asking us to take him out, speaks volumes. This isn't just Vol fans seeing this, everyone is seeing this. Do you not think that moving forward, every team we play will just game plan to stress and hurry JG and they will shut us down. The staff HAS to see this and take it into consideration.
