Guys...
He averaged 10 yards a completion.

He had a TD at the beginning of the game
Had a TD at the end of the game.
Volnation, that's called having a complete game!

Lets PACK Neyland Stadium and watch our Vols as Jarrett Gaurantano makes his 3rd start of the season to take on the Mocs.!

He didn't do it on his own. He had half his offense helping to keep him up and pushing for the endzone. The flipside to that is that our defense kinda quit pushing back. Not sure if they thought they heard a whistle, but they gave up instead of continuing to push back. Just a microcosm of the program right now if I'm being honest.

It is. I was watching the Tennessee game and the LSU/Texas game together last night. Texas had the ball inside the 5 yard line twice last night and LSU stopped them both times. (One play was a Ingram drop) However LSU defensive line and linebackers were attacking with leverage and effort.

We have some effort and zero leverage on the defensive front 7. Your right we have a massive cultural problem. Honestly I don’t care who they play now or how much they cause us to loose by. Just so some damn passion and know your assignments.

I’ve been trying to stay behind JG but it is obvious that despite ability he has no vision, is no leader, and his “ over analytical” nature will likely prevent him from advancing at this level.
Season is pretty much a bust, as SEC play is likely to get ugly and our bowl clencher games have been lost. Might as well start developing the younger talent

I don't want to give another game away because of the QB play. This means that if JG starts out against UTC, the way end played the last three quarters yesterday, then the two backs have to play just to see what they can do in a real college football game. If they areas good or better than JG played last night, then I think we have to get them game experience and give us the best chance to win as many game as possible this year as well as next year. JG seems to be regressing and a shakeup may be what is needed. We won't know unless we try it.

There are plenty of things JG could have done to put the game away. He didn’t do those things. However when there was 20 seconds left in the game Taylor trying to jump a 15 yard out did send the game to OT.

And yes the BYU running back did drag Tennessee’s entire defensive line 5 yards for a game winning score.

JG was involved in none of those plays. Tennessee had leads in both of those situations. And from a coaches mind why would you pull JG in that game when you had the lead for the whole game for a freshman QB that throws picks in practice?
I’m not at all saying JG should’ve been pulled in that game. It was too late then. That bust at the end was inexcusable no doubt but the D played well for the most part.

You got nothing to lose by throwing in Shrout, Mauer, or the transfer this week against UTC.

IF Mauer or Shrout don't make it, you can still redshirt one of them.

AND the transfer has college game experience.

GIVE IT A SHOT...YOU CAN'T GET ANY MORE EMBARRASSED.

I don’t think the transfer is eligible this year.

Our Volunteers could and probably should have lost the game in regulation. The touchdown to Jennings was a total fluke. There was never a sustained drive to the endzone. Its a shame that the program is where it is and the fix wont be quick or easy.

Perspective for those complaining about the D line on the final play. If one watched the game in its entirety they would know that the defense never should have been put in that situation. Also, for those stats guys, tell me what was the score going into the third and 4th quarters? I do believe the only lone TD drive came after a JG int. Any team that scores only 16 pts at the end of regulation more times than not will never win.

Dude, dude, dude... he threw one TD in regulation and it should have been an interception. It bounced off the defender's hands into Jennings' hands. That was complete luck. I've been one of JG's biggest supporters, but you have to know when enough is enough. I say now.

We need to find our base. As much of a fan of the potential of JG, he just does not have the football IQ to develop any further. He has no internal clock that tells him when to throw.

At this point, much like in 1988, we need our game manager. Jeff Francis was never going to compete for a Heismen, but he was a serviceable talent with a good football IQ.

We are at the point that we need to get someone that can understand basic football. Put in a run first mentality, and go play action. About a 60/40 or 55/45 split.

Focus on strength and conditioning, keep rotating a lot of linemen and RB, identify our talent at DB (not Taylor, he's got to go, he was lost), and turn every game into a gutter brawl.

We don't need "homeruns". Our backs showed last night we don't have breakaway speed or even a 2nd gear. Time to go ground and pound, try and keep it close enough that we are still in the game in the 4th qtr by stopping the mistakes, and hope we can gut out some wins.

Liked your post but Maurer may be better than a game manager. If not immediately, at some point. He has a little bit of that "Johnny Football" in him too. The coaches have remarked how he is able to make plays after the play breaks down.

Believe me, I completely understand being frustrated but there’s absolutely no excuse for calling JG a moron...
And, he graduates as a jr with 1 class this year! Moron he ain't.

I would have voted for option 3 -- open the position up for competition and assign each contender a role with playing time vs UTC.

If this season is going down in flames, you might as well prepare for the future. Throw the young boys in and see which one swims. With JG having graduated, I honestly didn't see him staying here for his Senior Year anyway.

You really, really need to learn how to use blue font.

He most definitely deserved to be pulled after the pick. Just remember this: his only TD in regulation was because Jennings wrested away the bobble.

I think we all see things that should bench JG. Hopefully the staff does too. The thing we don't know is whether either of the other two could do better. We can easily say it is worth a try... but our jobs aren't on the line.

But if I'm in his shoes... I'd have to take that chance and especially with a light opponent coming up.
