I just answered above. Being honest, Butch’s roster was worse his first year. They got down two scores against UGA and nearly won in OT. He had his guys playing hard, and then the wheels fell off on 2016.
In certain games. Should have beaten Vandy and gone to a bowl in '13. And it was that way every year after, always fighting for one unexpected game and then laying down in another.

That was a 9-4 Vandy team, and it was an incorrect video reversal that won the game for them. 14-10. Those teams played hard for him. Bad roster and some bad coaching decisions cost them wins in the first few years.

I know everyone hates Butch, and his development after 2015 was awful. But he did some good things early in his tenure. The first 6 games of 2016 were the most exciting stretch of football since probably 2006 or 2007. Maybe Kiffin in 2009.

I don't think anyone is suggesting it's as bad of a loss. It's still a bad loss, Wyoming is not a good team this year. They were projected as the 4th team in the MW.
Yeah I’m just saying I don’t think motivation was a factor in that loss like it was for us

Wyoming is a good team with a very good coach. Plus it was on the road. Not anywhere near as bad a loss as GSU
Playing in Wyoming wont intermediate anyone. Also they were 3rd in the mountain west. Not a good team and I couldn't name the coach.

I'm not just blaming Butch, good grief. Yes Vandy was a better team but they had a very off game that day and we didn't capitalize.

And anyone on this board could name at least 1 game a year but usually 2 when we didn't.

But the discussion was about culture and playing hard in years one and two under a coach. Butch’s teams did not lose in his first two years for failing to play hard. I distinctly remember that I was impressed that they always kept playing. They lost because of a poor roster, and some questionable coaching decisions.

Vandy had the better team in 2013. Yes, we should have beaten them, but it wasn’t because we were giving half effort. Dobbs was awful, and they overturned a questionable call.

Butch also always had his teams ready in season openers until 2016.

Interesting. I’ve avoided anything UT football for a few days, so that was news to me. I did not think losing Thompson and Gooden would hurt as bad as it did. But, no excuses for losing to Ga St.

If we beat BYU and play well in doing so, I think we could still get to 6-6 or 7-5. Pruitt needs this game in a bad way, but I personally hope he gets time. This is the best staff we’ve had since Fulmer, and continuity and consistency can be very valuable. Quick fixes at UT are just not going to work. I’m as pissed as anyone, but I hope fans can stay positive because it’s still early.

I don't understand why you don't take the FG there?
You are in a fight whether you wanna admit it or not, take the points.

Agree to disagree. Repeating the overturned call doesn't mean that we shouldn't have won anyway.

But Jones had the exact same results as we did last year. One game we would play well past what I thought we would, the next game we just come out completely flat. If we're remembering 2 different ways, we won't agree so I'll move on.

I’m surprised people are questioning whether guys played hard under Butch his first couple years. I rarely saw a lack of effort. The wheels fell off for Butch when the gimmicks didn’t work anymore. His coaching staff selections were under scrutiny, and his player management became questionable. Player development was always a problem under that staff, but I think there was more of a snowball effect of several events that led to culture problems in his last year or arguably last 2 years.

yep. all this. those first couple years, we were one of the least penalized teams in the league.

there was a lot to hang your hat on at the very beginning. they didn't make a ton of mistakes and they palyed hard.

then it fell off a cliff.

maybe we're doing it in reverse this time????
