Bass I think is on the something here. Think about it, every team who is ulta successful has “that” person who you lean on when things are going good/bad to lead you. Other than JJ, who is it?

I’d make JJ my captain and have him be the only guy for the coin flip until others prove they are deserving.
Agreed. And you know, I think it is very telling that JG isn't a captain. That is the first thing that I noticed at the game last week was that JG wasn't out there for the coin toss. He's the QB. He should be a captain. The fact he isn't is telling. And then, another leader, supposedly, is DT who was loafing more than anyone in the second half. Another is supposedly Warrior who, the next time he makes a play will be his first. We need some of these younger guys to lead the team and we need a QB who will lead. We might not get the latter until next year though.

A good coach *should* be able to turn players recruited by the previous staff and make them want to play hard for him and see the path to having fun/winning ball games. Not all of them - but most. Then you get rid of the guys that won’t buy in.

Butch got most of those Dooley guys to play hard. Locksley has Durkin guys playing well - and that atmosphere was as toxic as any in the country. A kid died there.
He did? He went 5-7 and 6-6. That's getting those upper classmen to play hard? Your narrative is showing here, bud. It's okay to question why the staff can't get these guys to fight and have want to. That's a fair question. But to try and blame everything on Pruitt like you are is ridiculous.

@Bassmaster_Vol you are 100% right. Swain and every other former player said the same. Yes there was terrible coaching but only a player can decide if he will perform to the best of his ability despite the situation.

No different than your job. You may not like your boss, you may think corporate is filled with morons. But you know if you're really doing your best on Tuesday or just enough to not get in trouble. The boss can do things to raise morale and he *should.. but you're the only one that can decide if you're going to give 100% that day despite what's going on.

I am finding comfort in the Meshegan and Army game but setting here waiting for that to go wrong. That is what these last few years of watching UT games has done to me. I can't even enjoy Army beating UM. LOL

I don't look for CJP to be fired up today. How can he jump his players when they don't know the position they are playing? Some are practicing two positions this week. Been moved around during the game, and don't know which position group they are suppose to be in. No, Pruitt can't fire up anyone today because they are playing to tentative because of not practicing one position. Team will not get better till this is settled.

And I remember when this exact same line of thinking was used in Butch’s first couple of years because “Dooley’s culture was so bad.” We give every coach this benefit of the doubt. And we probably should in year one. But in year two you’ve had enough time to set your culture and weed out any bad apples.

You act like playing true freshman would be worse than playing upperclassmen giving 60%. It wouldn’t be.

The team in Butch’s first 3 years played hard for him. UGA in 2013, USC in 2013, USC in 2014, and the final half of the 2015 season were times when the team faced adversity and played very hard for him. That all changed in 2016, but for all of the negative with him, he was able to get his players to play hard his first few years.

Im 1359 miles from Neyland these days, living in Colorado after a brief stint in Oregon (travel nurse girlfriend) but im still rocking my favorite Vols polo at work today. Luckily most people out here dont care enough about football other than the Broncos to talk any trash so i havent been ridiculed at all. I truly hope we actually come out with a pulse tonight and wtfa but after last week I just have no clue if theyre even capable of showing intensity and playing with the talent and ability they supposedly have. Fearless prediction, Vols 41-BYU 21 for no other reason than why not keep the orange shades on and hope for the best.

I just answered above. Being honest, Butch’s roster was worse his first year. They got down two scores against UGA and nearly won in OT. He had his guys playing hard, and then the wheels fell off on 2016.

Wyoming is a good team with a very good coach. Plus it was on the road. Not anywhere near as bad a loss as GSU
I don't think anyone is suggesting it's as bad of a loss. It's still a bad loss, Wyoming is not a good team this year. They were projected as the 4th team in the MW.
