Once I see "JG did fine" or "JG wasn't the problem" - I stop reading. The QB sets the tone and is the primary leader of the team - not just his side of the ball The team takes their lead, confidence and inspiration from his performance. That's why they make so much money in the NFL. They are the generals that the troops give their all for and with - or not. That's reality, not some message board fantasy.

Remove the last drive stats from JG's performance against GSU since they were playing soft and the clock. Watch the game again and be real. Worst QB in the SEC as a 4th year player. Instead of blaming it on having the four different OC's and some different QB coaches- don't you think that it is telling that he has not improved significantly despite having 4 different OC's and other QB coaches? Not one of the them has been able to improve his level of play significantly. Yet, because he is a practice show pony who says the right things he gets trotted out there week after week. W's and L's, people. He is a major, direct cause of more L's than W's.

Start over at QB or collect your buy-out, Pruitt. Stop cross training players, Pruitt. They need to be able to handle one job they are best suited for first before doing that. Find guys that are willing to mix it up and destroy on D. They look like chess pieces instead of football players.

Here’s the real problem I see, aside from the fact that was the worse loss in history of the university:

recruiting under Pruitt has not been very good under since he was hired. There have been a handful of elite level players and a last year’s class was fine on the whole - but about on par with what Dooley was doing here and less impressive than what Butch, Kiffin and Fulmer were able to do.

Anyway, we’ve all been in agreement that we needed a big step forward to kickstart recruiting. 8 or 9 wins would have done a ton for perception. That’s out the window. We might get to 6 wins. 7 if literally everything went right from here out. (It won’t.)

That type of season - the one that is now a best case scenario - is not a fireable offense. But it doesn’t allow for this recruiting class to flourish. So next year we go into a make or break season for the entire coaching staff - with a tougher schedule - with three very average (by Tennessee standards) recruiting classes.

And this is the best case scenario!

Last year’s class was good enough. If we somehow keep our current commits and land our instate guys this year, it will be good enough to make progress. Have to do it on the field.

I feel like the only way to fix things is to have everything come full circle. Fulmer back at coach. Just like Kansas State had to do.

We’re spending our way to a loss to GSU right now.

Highest paid staff in the country. I think we pay Pruitt more than we’ve paid any head coach in our history. Money doesn’t fix this.
I think the implication is that the money is intelligently spent. Pruitt was always a foolish buy.

Realistic expectations at this point?

I was a 6 - 6 guy after watching the spring game providing they could beat Vanderbilt otherwise 5-7.

Yesterday, was painful and I’m still not out on Pruitt but the three things that concern me the most are

1. The fiery competitor that we saw from Pruitt who worked tirelessly to get better seems gone. Almost like the losing beat it out of him last season.

2. I expected Chaney to call a better game, in that the game plan was just like that of last season with Helton. No vertical passing game down the field to set up the run. Reminds me of Fulmer days without Cut as his OC. It’s just very predictable on offense, same as last season and that’s obviously what Pruitt wants.

3. Vols can’t block, Defense can’t pressure the QB into mistakes, and we have a QB that made turnovers and still can’t make plays when we need him to.

That being said this can be improved.

1. Pruitt needs to stay completely away from the offense and game planning. If Chaney wants to run a fast paced no huddle, then Pruitt should let him. We know Chaney can coach offense. If we’re going to lose, I’d rather do it by firing all the bullets in my gun and for this team that means throwing down field to make explosive plays with the WR’s.

2. Pruitt needs to find himself, and get back the guy that loathes to lose. Get involved with the defense and if needed call the plays again because we know he can do that.

3. And, most importantly, Pruitt needs to have open competition for every position including QB this week in practice and those that want to play and be Tennessee Volunteers and give effort and desire should start.

6-6 and a bowl may still be possible but they have to improve dramatically each and every game.

No way we'rethe highest paid staff in the country. Saban alone makes about what our staff does. You absolutely can spend your way out of it. You don't have to pay the staff huge amounts of money when you have the right guy at the top.

We've seemed to focus on coaches we thought could recruit ignoring the importance of being able to run a program. I've been of that mindset but have shifted my thinking on that. While recruiting is important it takes a back seat to building a cohesive team of not only players but also a staff. I think if you have the right head coach recruiting will take care of itself.

They aren’t really setting the world on fire recruiting anyway.

I’m not sure that’s the answer either unless they let Chaney do whatever he wants on offense. After watching yesterday it was apparent that Chaney has been handcuffed. He’s always been a pass the ball vertically down the field first guy to set up the run. And, that’s certainly NOT what happened yesterday.

Going on a rant here IDGAF if you read it or not I'm just livid.

First from the actual game in section U. From the beginning of the game we looked bigger and faster than last year. I was starting to get a little more confident. Solomon cleared. Trey cleared. Yeah, we are going to bury these guys. But from kickoff something was off. I saw ZERO passion. I saw NO hype. There was NO comraderie. Quite literally the only two players I saw with a bit of emotion were Henry T and Cimaglia. The sidelines were DEAD.

I realized the first half was not the end of the world, I saw the other teams struggling. First game jitters no biggie. I expected the second half to come on strong. But nope, they drive right down the field and score on us. Again, no energy. Complete lack of care. That's when I started to worry. I'm starting to wonder why are we subbing 3 linemen almost every single play offense and defense (they're all trash, DL in particular). JG looks extremely uncomfortable in and out of the pocket. Just not a leader or really an SEC worthy QB. He's got no touch on passes at all. At least Gray, Cimaglia, Anderson, JJ, Chandler, and Henry T looked good. Genuinely not impressed with anyone else. In fact they were unimpressive. No one looked like they wanted to be there, coaches included.

All games we lose hurt. But this is far different. We have tried for a decade only to make things WORSE. There is quite literally no where to go from here. Fans, recruits, and media have seen that we can not get out of the hole we dug. It's no longer just a down year. Nope, they all are starting to understand this is just how the new Tennessee will be from now on.

The seats will empty.

The media will humiliate us.

The players will transfer.

The Recruiting, lifeblood of a program, will be battles with G5 teams.

Unless a miracle happens and we turn it around, there's simply not a reason to play for Tennessee anymore unless you're a die hard fan like we are.
