That’s basically it, just what Pruitt was supposedly telling boosters behind the scenes. IIRC they thought they would be able to out-physical a finesse Big 12 team and run over them. Saw it on VN and Twitter and heard it on local radio. Pruitt wasn’t saying things publicly though, so maybe this is different.

BVS is real, and well-founded. Ex: September 1, 2016 was my 40th bday. As a gift to me, my wife took our two girls and went out for the evening and i had the whole house to myself to settle and for the opening game of the 2016 Vols!

I had some pizza and beer ready and my couch all situated and i was ready to see the Vols steamroll over lowly Appy St. In fact, the discussion on this board leading up to that date was just how ridiculously lopsided the win would be.

As I watched those undersized Appy St defensive linemen having their way with our OL, and as we made our way to a fluky Jalen Hurd recovered fumble in overtime to steal a victory from the Mountaineers I felt a pit in my stomach.

Though I experienced a few fleeting moments of Josh-Dobbs and Juaun Jennings inspired glory, the pit of worry didn’t go away and the gloom resurfaced in 2016, then all of 2017.

I feel like we are on the upswing now. I want to be optimistic. I don’t think we are gonna be world beaters but i think we will have a sound, tough, fairly talented team.
*But after the last 12 years or so, I’m also not ready to proclaim “we’re back!” Just yet.
