What would you say "mediocre at best" implies? So the best we can hope for is mediocre and he obviously isn't being optimistic in his statement. So mediocre seems almost unattainable in this line of thinking. Maybe he didn't say our lines will be trash, but he certainly seems to be implying they will be bad. Is that a more fair assumption so nobody feels disparaged? I get it. He's just trying to save everyone from their expectations and everyone is attacking him for it.
