b.mckeeRumors have been swirling about a potential decision on Auburey Solomon all day. Solomon was first through d-line drills at practice alongside Greg Emerson and Matthew Butler.
Freshman cornerback Warren Burrell remains in line to start at cornerback opposite Alontae Taylor. Shawn Shamburger was again working as the first-team star.
Another freshman slated to start Saturday is linebacker Henry To’oto’o.
JJ Peterson might’ve taken a rep later in the drill but the two minutes I was out there I didn’t see one. Banks spent every post-rep talking with analyst Kevin Simon.
During individual drills, Solomon was running first.
At one point, Ollie Lane was working with the rest of the first-team as the right guard. Jahmir Johnson got a few reps today. The tackle combos were usually Wanya Morris and Marcus Tatum and Johnson and Darnell Wright. Jerome Carvin got a lot of reps at center, including with the supposed 1s. Trey Smith also took several reps.
simontonDuring the routes on air period, Ramel Keyton continues to make a move, running second behind Marquez Callaway today.
t still looks like the possibility remains that Tennessee could start both freshman tackles Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright, the two former five-star prospects, against Georgia State in the season opener.
Marcus Tatum also took reps at right tackle, and that was a bit of a theme of some of Tuesday's work as the Vols rotated two players at each position up front. It was Tatum and Wright at right tackle, Morris and Johnson at left tackle, Calbert and Locklear (and Ollie Lane some, too) at right guard, Trey Smith and Ryan Johnson at left guard, and Brandon Kennedy and Jerome Carvin at center.
Shanon Reid will give the Vols a third option at inside linebacker, but in Bituli's absence, it's unclear who Tennessee's fourth-best inside linebacker is.
Tennessee doesn't appear to be backing off its plan of working Aubrey Solomon as if he will be cleared by the NCAA in time for Saturday's game. The Michigan transfer again was with the first trio through defensive-line drills
p.brownShawn Shamburger indeed looks set to earn the nod at the Star position.
Vol fans also anticipate the return of offensive lineman Trey Smith. He was working as the first team left guard during five-man offensive line drills. Wanya Morris was at left tackle next to Smith, while Brandon Kennedy worked at center. Ollie Lane worked at right guard, and Marcus Tatum worked at right tackle. Jerome Carvin also saw work at center.
At inside linebacker, a lot of attention was given to sophomore Jeremy Banks as he continues to transition from running back. Henry To’oto’o and Will Ignont were the first team linebackers with Daniel Bituli sidelined with a knee injury. Following Ignont’s reps, the junior went out of his way to help Banks through drills. Banks was also working with Shannon Reid.
In the secondary, Alontae Taylor and Warren Burrell were the first team corners while Shawn Shamburger worked as the first team nickelback. Nigel Warrior and Trevon Flowers were the starting safeties.
b.mckeeJT Shrout was the first quarterback to take reps following Jarrett Guarantano while Ramel Keyton worked with the second team wide receivers.
