Bryce Thompson out - potentially

Words aren’t assault. A good lawyer gets this worked out in less than one month.

You should really know your state laws before you start playing message board lawyer.

Assault (Simple Assault): Assault is defined as either intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another; or, intentionally or knowingly causing another to reasonably fear imminent bodily harm. It is charged as a misdemeanor. 2010 Tennessee Code 39-13-101 - Assault.

I don’t think they take that chance either... makes a threat... they brush it under the rug, 3 months later he has another tantrum and carries out the threat... that chance can not be taken.

Actually threatening violence against someone is assault if the person threatened believes you intend to follow through. The act of committing the violence is battery. You can be charged with assault with a deadly weapon just by pointing a gun at someone and threatening to shoot them.
I’m gonna kick your a..! Just kidding. Leave the cops out of this.

Well you stated he clearly needs help. So now it is based on you knowing nothing
Brilliant

Basing off the reports that’s be stated in this thread.

If it turns out to be BS, great but he didn’t get charged for Domestic Assault for no reason.

Breaking stuff and threatening to shoot up a school makes it sound like he does indeed have anger issues. Does he need to be kicked off the team? I’ll leave that up to the University to decide.

This blows over. As it should. Love will make you do and say some stupid ****

Per Vols247, he was in an argument with his girlfriend and made two threats, one to "slap the (expletive) out of her" and the other to "shoot up the school." Thompson also admitted to breaking a metal gate at the end of the hallway of the dorm building.

He denied making any threats or making any physical contact with her, and she told police she couldn't remember "the entirety of what had occurred between the two as it was a stressful volatile situation," but did mention Thompson has punched walls in their past arguments and has a temper. One witness heard the two threats and the gate crashing noise and said he saw Thompson. Another witness heard the slapping threat and the crash, and another heard yelling and the school threat -- neither saw Thompson but ID'd him.

None of the witnesses claimed to have seen any physical contact with Thompson and his girlfriend. The report says Thompson was taken into custody and charged with domestic assault because he caused his girlfriend to "reasonably fear imminent bodily injury."

Ok, well you were doing all the deciding earlier.

So far, my diagnosis is a 19 year old boy. Yikes! Run for the hills everyone!

The Black Cloud widens over Knoxville Tn as Football season aproaches, fans are really apprehensive about the Vols succeeding, staaaaaay Tuned

A domestic assault charge, no matter what the circumstances, isn’t what I would call “minor”. Vandalism? Yes.

Legally, for verbal abuse, it absolutely is minor. The damaging of property is actually a bigger deal than that, from a legal standpoint. The shoot up the school part seems like conjecture. He could have threatened to down anybody who's messing with his girl, and that could have been construed as "shooting up the school." Or may be he did say he would shoot up the school. I'm sure the investigation will find it out.

Now, from a personal standpoint, it certainly isn't a minor issue. Verbal abuse normally precedes physical abuse. And threatening to shoot anyone is extremely disturbing as well.

Jmo but throw him off the team.

He's already admitted that he's guilty of assault (the "slap the **** out of you" comment).

If it's proven that he made the "shoot the school up" comment then he can easily be charged with making terroristic threats.

If it was just the assault and vandalism I would say a 2 game suspension. I'm afraid the "shoot up the school" comment might get him kicked out of school. What a shame. Not the first time we've seen a player with NFL potential piss it all away on a bad night. Sometimes it's better to just walk away

So we’re going to use that “He’s just a kid” excuse again?

Brilliant.

Very few people seem to know the difference between “assault” and “battery”. Hats off to you.

If this is all that is required for an arrest these days, my entire generation would have a record
