The Atlanta Braves

He’s not doomed to failure at all. In 27 years of the SEC championship game in its current format, Tennessee has won its division 5 times and won the entire conference twice.

So, mathematically, it’s very easy to say it’s *unlikely* Pruitt does either of those things. Doesn’t mean I don’t like the guy or think we’re on the right track.
Can we at least see year 2 before we evaluate him?

I think that’s what we’re doing, no? If such and such happens, I will be happy and like him. If so and so happens, I will be enraged and hate him. We can only win or lose. It’s not like there’s a million outcomes here to project.

There is a gulf between what we know and what we think we know about Pruitt.

For the record, going into Year 2 I thought Butch was pretty good and you were convinced he was THE GUY going well into Year 4. I think Pruitt might be THE GUY - but he’s not proven anything yet.

The whole point of this was Pruitt in comparison to Snitker. Snitker has proven some things. Pruitt has not.
Gosh there is so much here. First of all, nobody on here has made a definitive statement about Pruitt except for you. So stop projecting. And your statement was that he’ll fail.

Secondly, I was out on the intern after he lost to Vandy in 2016. Go back to that thread and see my posts about who our next coach could be. I got optimistic as lots of fans try to do going into the 2017 season. After Umass I believe it was, the 2nd game of the season, I was calling for him to be fired. So nice revisionist history there bud. I am a fan and will not be apologizing for being optimistic. Who cares?

At this point you are defending an older version of Fredi Gonzalez so it seems like the shoes on the other foot here in spite of your pridefulness about knowing first about the intern.

I don’t think so. I think the rise of other powers is to blame in addition to Lane only being here 1 year and the two doofuses after him.
The Kiffin debacle is really what nuked the program. I'm probably in the minority, but I think we'd have been ok by 2011 if LK had stuck around.

They were all bad, I don’t dispute you there. I just think Fulmer and his staff may have hit an apex we won’t see again.

Yeah, we would’ve been really good. NCAA trouble be damned.

And we would’ve survived it anyway had they allowed Cut to bring his staff or just let Kippy ride it out for a year.

This. IMO, a major factor in this program's decline post-1998 was that other SEC schools started hiring better coaches. Gone are the DiNardos, the Goff/Donnans, and DuBoses.

IMO, one of the most fascinating "what if" questions of UT Football is where would the program be in Lane had stayed a few more years. I know the popular answer is "on probation," but I still think we would have been a decent program under him. Probably not a perennial 10-win team, but likely an 7-8-9 win team. A tangential question is whether we would have hired a Dooley or Butch had Lane stabilized the program for a few years.

Maybe not a CFB Playoff and a ridiculous ten-year W/L record, but I don't see why this program can't win the SEC East in the next few years.

UGA will find a way to UGA, regardless of the talent on the roster, and we will see what happens with Mullen.

It’s a hot take, but I’m 95% confident Lane would have won an SEC title here. In year 1 with a makeshift OL and a broken QB he almost beat Saban in Tuscaloosa, held his own against Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer, and beat down Richt and Spurrier.

I think the OL COULD be solid by mid season assuming Trey is okay. I'm hoping Darrell Taylor goes apesh!t to ease some of the DL woes.
