Go pay for a golf lesson and you will see it’s much more detailed than that

200$ a hour isn’t uncommon
Yeah, I get that. I didn't envision individualized lessons being a huge part of what a golf coach does, but I guess I could be wrong about that. I see it more like being a Ryder Cup captain.

sounds about right. i think it's obvious they liked the kid and his upside.

i dont' think they were recruiting as hard as TR would like most to believe they were. the whole comment about how KY was just chill and TN was really coming hard.............don't buy it. lol. sounded to me more like a kid that wanted to drive the narrative so as to get a jab to the TN folks he was going to spurn..... not sure if that means he's just mean, lol, or just liked playing the game of recruiting.

either way, i don't think the TN staff was on him as hard as he said they were.
When he said that it came off as I want people to think Tennessee is really coming after me, and I chose KY instead of I had to settle for KY because I don't think TN wants me as much. Would have been different if he had said they were both really after him.

Your comment struck a curiosity in me about what it takes to be a good golf coach. Is it like, "you really need to work on your drives landing more toward the middle of the fairway" and stuff like that.

Also, it'd be pretty funny if there was a golf coach that went all Woody Hayes, Nick Saban, Bob Knight-esque on their student athletes.

College golf coaches tend to focus a lot around mental toughness and course management. Most of the top amateurs have their own swing coaches so the college coaches aren't necessarily giving out lessons as much as they are motivating them and hardening them to be ready to play under the gun. Not to say they don't have access to a swing instructor if they want to diagnose.

S&C is also much more in play than ever before. Kids are more athletic and strong than in years past. Tiger Woods effect.

Hey guys,

My Mom passed this morning. It was very peaceful and calm after several days of rapid decline. We were able to be with her the whole time and are still up here in Cincinnati taking care of my Dad. Thanks for all your prayers.

*Sorry to drop this in here, but y’all are some prayer -sending folks and we could use em.
🙏 for your family also. I am glad it was peaceful, but I know from experience it is still hard. May the Comforter give your family comfort and peace.

I think they do some individual swing coaching but I am sure a lot of organizing, mental coaching and recruiting

It is a lot like being a Ryder Cup captain. Biggest part of the job is recruiting, course strategy, practice structure, etc. Most players have their own swing instructors at home so very little “swing instructing” is done by the coach.

OL musings: why move a guy if he did great at where he played last year! Dang it, leave tre at RG and JJ at left guard! I don’t agree that the best OL should play LT. If he sucks at it (like Trey did last year), then DONT do it. In the case of Trey, we’re talking All-American at RG, maybe the best to ever play the position at UT. Would you want there best there is at one position or mediocrity at another?

In the case of JJ, he looked dang good at LG last year. LEAVE HIM THERE! This is what I don’t like about getting “the best 5” on the field. Why try to get the best 5 when two of them are the best at guard, but ain’t any better than then backup at tackle? In that case now you’re no better at the tackle position and weaker at the guard spot. Defies logic.

Friend and Pruitt have a chance to do what’s right. It doesn’t look like they will. I was hoping Chaney would step in and fix this, but he hasn’t.

Don’t bother pointing out what JJ’s body looks like. Look at his performance and not his body shape. He was good at LG last year and I would expect him to be better, and the best choice for the position.

How about it guys? Anyone feel me here? Can we let guards be guards and tackles be tackles?
To be fair, JJ had a stretches where he really struggled last year. The attitude and tenacity was always there, but there were plenty of times where he blew assignments or just got overpowered.

I don’t have a problem with trying to find the best combination of 5 and trying guys at some different spots to find that combo.

I really wish I understand this 3-4 stuff

He’s my best guess on this. In many cases their is no different between a OLB and a DE and when hear things like today it simply means those guys were working on pass rushing drills today
I think it's more about situational versatility. Olb pass rush is a little different in that it's more lining up in a standing position vs having yer hand in the dirt. They wouldn't need to go to the olb group for pass rush as dl learns that too. All 3 of those guys have probably been working on pass rush for 3 and 4 man fronts with rocker. My guess is they show enough athleticism to stand up in some situations if necessary. Like we have a 4 man front in and can't substitute but wanna shift to a 3 man front, they can stand up. Or even a 2 down linemen front. It's also possible they were getting some practice dropping into coverage on a tight end. Possibly for zone blitzes similar to what the Steelers used to run where you don't know who's rushing and who's dropping back. I just think they wouldn't be experimenting with those guys at olb if they didn't see the athleticism they need to pull it off.

I think we get Hardy anyway, who is bigger and better.

Most college golfers have talent or they wouldn't get scholarships. I have a relative, who is a college golf coach, and he works on the mental aspect of the game more than technique with his guys. Anyone who plays golf, at a high level, knows the mental part of the game is just as important as technique. The UT mens golf team is definitely on the rise. I'm a golf junkie and I keep up with our golf team through Golfstat during tournaments. They record player and team scores during tournaments. Most people will not keep up with tournament scores but I do. That's how much I love UT :cool:.
