@Big Gucci Sosa

Good UFC picks last night. Went 2/2, knew Diaz was always money coming back from that layoff where he was always training, just not accumulating damage. Put some of the winnings on Stipe to get that underdog money, just like last time they fought. MMA odds get so skewed because of the public putting money on who they root for, not where the value is (i.e. Connor v Mayweather, literally free money)

Aaaaccckkkk!! That's no kind of language for a preacher!
Haha. Nice. Side note, I'm not a real preacher but I have officiated 3 weddings so some of my friends call me preacher. And I always wear pretty much the same outfit as jessie from the show Preacher

A nice optimistic post on VQ I thought I'd share...

I don't know guys. Things are starting to look a lot better offensively than many of us thought a couple months ago. The interior of this OL could be a real force in the run game. Trey Smith and Calbert are massive humans with freakish strength. Kennedy looks a lot stronger as well and he is a 6th year college guy.

You add this to the equation of Gray and Chandler being able to share the bulk of the carries and we have some big play guys finally at RB again. Then when Chaney starts using DWA and Jennings in the middle of the field this will help with hot reads and safety valves for JG plus they will help a lot with play action, RPO's and their mere presence in the short middle zones will cause the LB's to have to sit on their heals for a second and not just sell out on the run like teams have been doing on early downs against us for the past 3 years.

Also, if teams start to blitz our OL a lot because they suspect that stunts, overloads and sending extra guys will confuse our OL and JG; i suspect Chaney can use quick slants, TE stick routes, naked bootlegs to DWA on a quick out, and screens to make defenses pay. Having RB's that can catch and are great out in space is going to give this offense an element we have not had or used in a long time. This is just in base offensive sets. If Chaney is planning on using some 2 RB sets and motioning Chandler to WR, again a lot of mismatches.

If we get a running game going, this offense could be nasty. We know we have the talent at WR, and we know JG can sling the ball when given time, but one of the biggest issues has been the OL. Pass blocking has been awful, run blocking has been awful, which in turn has not helped JG out much. We all know JG has struggled with holding the ball too long and struggling with pre-snap reads and getting the OL and running backs into the ideal plays. From the sound of things, a lot of these issues are being solved thanks to Chaney, Martin, and staff.

I am pretty bullish on this offense. If the OL starts to gel by game 4, this offense could potentially be a 30 ppg offense. If this offense turns out to be as good as I think they can potentially be, then our defensive line concerns are not nearly as big of an issue and the offensive firepower would allow Pruitt to be more aggressive with his defense and he may try to create more turnovers and TFL plays trying to flip the field more, giving our offense more possessions. This could be a very interesting and surprising season.

Plus it will be fun to see the young talent grow as the season moves on. If we are playing meaningful games towards the latter part of our season, we may see some real growth in year 2.

I think 6-6 is the floor. I think 7-5 is odds on and 8 is realistic. Winning 5 would be ugly and winning 9 would be for sure exceeding expectations. But enough of the record guess let's just play. GBO!
I got us winning them all until they don't! Absolutely hate penciling in losses. People forget upsets happen. Tennessee used to be the team that got upset. Now they are on the hunt. They are going to upset someone this season book it!

I think a lot really depends on Smith and Solomon.

If both play...I think that's probably worth at least one more W on the schedule.

If they don't play, I think there's some pretty difficult matchups for both of our lines.... And 7-5 may be the ceiling.

Nope. My 6-6 assessment is not negative at all. It's just where we are. We will be better next year.

Agreed. 6-6 is a reasonable assessment for this team.

7 wins or more wins this season is optimistic.

5 wins or less is certainly a pessimistic view.

IMHO the Vols need dramatic improvement at QB to get 6 or more wins. If he doesn’t improve they won’t make a bowl game.

This team will go as far as JG takes them this season.

Perceptionwise, 6-6 would hurt. As it should. This staff and the talent they've developed and recruited is better than 6-6. A 6-6 season isn't turning the corner; it's still puttering toward the corner.
All that is absolutely true - but it doesn’t mean it is unlikely or unreasonable.

We get in this mindset of “it just has to be better than that.” And what’s been proven for the last decade is “no, it really doesn’t.”

To me, 6-6 is more likely than 8-4. I still think 7-5 is the sweet spot and where I’m predicting us to finish.

@vol2002 just gave his 6-6 prediction, same as he and a few others have done on several occasions, and it doesn't bother anyone. Because there is no "intolerance of differing opinions".

The others that are just trolling, will become a good chief joke or get ignored like every attempt that came over here before them.

The moral of the story, no one can ruin a good RF calfa-geddon.
The chef learned his lessons.

JG is good and important, but everything comes down to the offensive line. They should be better just given more experience in the system and another year of strength training. However, how much better remains to be seen. They were one of the worst units in the country last season. So big improvement may still mean they’re below average. If that’s the case, does this team make a multiple game improvement in the win column? It’s no sure bet.

That seems to be the minority view in here lately. All this good news from recruiting and camp, yet the clouds of doom keep rolling in.
I think if we weren't up in the air on Smith and Solomon, tunes would change.

Line of scrimmage on both sides we're the the biggest concerns anyway, and to potentially not have your 3 best players, including gooden, has just increased the angst....

I think 7-5 is a very likely outcome this season. However, we don't know how the breaks will fall. If they don't go our way we could end up 6-6. If we get the breaks we could win 8 or maybe even 9 games. The only two teams that truly scare me are Bama and UGA and we played UGA tough last year.

Agree 100%. This staff, the veteran roster combined with very talented young guys, year two of this regime, S&C growths, schedule, Chaney, Tee, Ansley, etc...add all that up and we're better than 6-6. That would be a disappointing season and would hurt recruiting and Pruitt's future on The Hill (not saying fire him but it'll be a very rough offseason and he'd have to jump to 9 wins in 2020 to show real progress in year 3). 6-6 would be losing to a couple teams we shouldn't have and not getting a AU or UK type win or two. 7 should be the floor and 8+ the goal, if we have what we think we do with this staff. Less than 7 would be bad all the way around.
