He looks good from his frame alone, but he produced poorly. 2.8 ypc vs p5 opponents and a fumble every 17 carries. Not sure what he's disproven yet. He's got to show a lot more imo if he's going to be a factor this year with Grey in the rotation.
It’s easy to have an opinion quantified by “not sure”. We’ll see soon...

well i think it's pretty common knowledge, the fumbles are what kept him off the field last year. did he miss the opportunity then? dunno.

but a good place to start is fix the ball control issues.

i think we'll see all 4 guys get carries this year. and i could see gray and chandler doing most of their damage as pass catchers.

while no one would probably tell you TN has a "great" backfield, quietly, i looks like we're 4 deep, and could put any combination of the Jordan/chandler or banks/gray on the field and probably see similar results, or if nothing else, not change the game plan or playing calling.....

i like our RB room right now all in all (not saying you or anyone else doesn't).

But back to the original conversation..
If I had "my druthers" I would rather Chaney not have to be yelling at pad holders about pad placement this far in.

Yes, that is a basic at it's purest level and shouldn't even need saying at this point, whatever the cause.

Where I began the conversation about Banks was answering whether or not he is an SEC caliber RB because a poster knows someone who’s “familiar” with him in high school. I felt the need to try and squash that because I feel like he is. I don’t think anyone here has argued that his ball security was an issue. I also don’t think that if someone argues that he out ran his blocks or the lack there of that anyone would argue that either.

He did end up in Pruitts dog house because of the fumbles but you could tell early on that he wanted to let him play as often as possible and think that based off of 2 things. 1. Pruitt, at the time didn’t have much confidence in this Butch team and he wanted to put his guys on the field as soon a possible. Did that backfire on him with this decision? Maybe. 2. He was/is trying to show recruits that if you come to TN and put in the work, you’ll play early.

I think Banks was kinda dealt a sh!t hand. For starters we had an OC who wanted to play some hopped up weird PAC12 offense that never made any sense to me and he had QB for a RB coach. After having a whole season and 2 springs under his belt, a real OC and a guy who is better suited to coach RBs. I think he’ll have a much better season than many want to admit to. I also think the guy plays with more passion than just about anyone outside of JJ that we’ve had in several years.

While Chaney wasn’t happy, Trey Smith’s work ethic continues to stand out above the rest. Smith was pulled from a drill to allow a fellow offensive lineman to get a rep and instead of taking a rep off, Smith stood 10-or-so-yards behind the drill and went through the rep on his own. Chaney threw Jahmir Johnson out of a drill at one point.

Trey is a beast!

Who wouldn't want him to have a great year? We're all Vols here. Don't need to make different teams for each player. Whoever is a Vol and will help us win, I'm 100% for their success. Would love for them all to succeed if they all could.

What did we expect? Practically no returning experience. We all knew it could be rough, but their size may give us a chance too. Pruitt is used to Bama DLs, this one was never going to impress him. He is challenging them.

Meanwhile they may be able to hold their ground at least, something we haven't done in a few years now. That is simply what I'd like to see. When an RB hits our DL, PUSH HIM BACKWARD. When our RB hits an opposing DL, FALL FORWARD. It's been too long.
