Since there so many names of the rich & famous, it is possible that the real story will never be known. First, consider the names associated with Epstein: Trump, Clinton, Prince Andrew, Alan Dershowitz, Leslie Wexner (owner of Victoria's Secret), Tom Barrack (Trump's senior campaign advisor), Woody Allen, Bill Barr (who first recused and then unrecused himself in the DOJ investigation of the Epstein case. His law firm represented Epstein in a 2008 case), Ken Starr, Mort Zuckerman, Bill Richardson, and George Mitchell just to name a few.
Then look at the legal beagles that represented him in Palm Beach and got him the famous plea deal. Roy Black, Jay Lefkowitz, Kenneth Starr and even recent Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, who wasn't on the legal team but played a notable role in hammering out the so-called "sweetheart deal" that gave Epstein a 1 year prison sentence that allowed him to come and go as freely as he needed.
Epstein's friends and acquaintances could fill up one Kevin Leach's "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." Not saying who is guilty or innocent, there was a ton of money and influence behind his first trial and a ton to expose if he ever talked truthfully about his exploits and whomever else he included on them. This should be the scandal of the century, but money and power may work hand in hand to see that the truth never sees the light of day.
